At one point, I saw a suggestion that people add small hair bungies between a tarp and guy line, to allow for stretch in case of wind to reduce tear outs. Does anyone find that helpful?

I used double loops of skinny bungie cord / tent pole shock cord on my old Tarptent Moment. Didn’t experience any high winds, but helped a lot with silnylon stretch overnight due to condensation and tree drip.
I put mine inline: tent -> guy line -> shock cord loops -> stake. Others don’t trust shock cord that much, and use the loops to slightly shorten the guy line. If the shock cord fails, tent/tarp doesn’t fall down completely.

I use hair ties, doubled over, in windy or stormy conditions. I loop it around the stake, then the guyline, back to the stake and plant it. I had one blow out in 20 years of doing it that way, but I think it was defective. In most cases, I pull the stake loose, first.
In mild or rainy conditions, I simply loop one loop into the other then anchor it down.
In either case, it helps a LOT with any stretch.
