Hi, I need help in planning my thru hike of the Tahoe Rim Trail.  I’m traveling by plane to Reno and I would like some advice on a couple things.

1.  I can check my backpack for the flight but I am going to carry a small bag with just a clean change of clothes and toiletries for when I’m done backpacking.  Where can I store my small bag while I’m on trail?

2.  Is uber the best way to travel back and forth from the airport? Or a shuttle service?

Thanks for any advice that can be offered

I left my bag with the Reno hotel I stayed in, they also did a free airport shuttle.

It was also handily close to REI and a great restaurant that did amazing papusas.

Why not mail the small bag to yourself via general delivery and then just pick it up at he PO when you’re done?  One option.

My buddy and I used the airport shuttle service to S Lake Tahoe, spent the night at a hotel, then Uber to the trailhead the next morning.  Our hotel in S Lake Tahoe held onto a large duffel bag with our packed / going home gear, and the local sporting goods place was our source for fuel canisters.

Chris,

One other option to reach the Tahoe Rim Trail from Reno is to hike the Rim to Reno Trail. This connects the Reno suburbs directly with the Tahoe Rim Trail and is a fine walk in itself. Along the way, the R2R passes a short spur trail that leads to the summit of Mt. Rose. More details and a gpx file can be found on our post: https://doingmiles.com/2019-10-reno-to-auburn/

Reno to trailhead? How far is that, just curious for future reference.  Is that closest airport?

Reno-Tahoe International Airport is the closest to the Rim to Reno Trail. It is about 9 road miles per GoogleMaps shortest route from that airport to where we started our trip.
