Yeah, eye doctor for test & prescription, and Zenni for the glasses.

Cheers

A couple of years ago I bought a pair of ELECTRIC BIG BEAT sunglasses at Sidewalk Surfer in Scottsdale, AZ, and I must say they are by far the best I’ve ever owned. The ELECTRICS are designed for skateboarders so they’re extremely durable and scratch resistant. I paid $150 for the polarized version. The non polarized ones sell for about $100. I’m as cheap as anyone can be, but I think the BIG BEATS are worth every penny.

@paul,

Thank you for the tips about the nemesis contractor glasses!

I picked up a 3 pack for 14.40 on ebay of smoke lenses….and just got them in.

OH man….I used to wear dollar store glasses but was getting fed up with them, but still didn’t want to spend $100+> on glasses.

These are …fantastic. Lightweight, don’t pinch my head at all but still stay on, are comfortable on my nose, offer safety protection, and wrap around the sides of my eyes! Colors look way better in these than the dollar store glasses, PLUS actually remove glare.

Of course, I’m just comparing with $1 glasses, but what a step up. $1 glasses say they are UV protected but I could never be 100% sure…and I always feel like I still had to squint in them. The nemesis ones …I know that they aren’t polarized (b/c they make a polarized version for a bit more), but they really seem to cut glare specifically.

I might try and find polarized ones on ebay to try those out. …actually I’ll do that now so I can compare them.

I can only find 1 downside….its that they don’t fold up compactly. I think its b/c of some safety requirement or needing impact resistance or something in some way? But they fold up like this ->

So…they don’t fit in my overhead sunglass holder in my car.

I wear glasses and want full sun coverage for my face/neck anyways, so a light baseball cap or my old OR waterproof brimmed hat, sans sunglasses, is what I wear.  My son has glasses with the lens that tint in the sun (can’t recall the name), but I don’t like how they affect my vision.  I don’t hike on snow in sunny spring/summer days, but if I did, then I’d wear one of the Nemesis safety glasses that can fit over my glasses.  They look great!

Some interesting leads!

In Canada, and in the US, Acklands-Grainger the industrial safety chain store, sells Uvex Genesis interchangeable lense safety glasses and an Rx insert. Tough as nails, inexpensive, your choice of lense from clear, yellow, intermediate, SCT Grey. Look like bike glasses but tougher and cheaper!

Glad you liked them. I, quite literally, stumbled upon them in Utah. I’ve liked them ever since. In fact, they were used today.
