It’s time for another Limerick Contest! To enter the contest, submit a limerick on this post that highlights your love of backpacking. You can enter as many times as you wish. As before, the entry must be in the form of a limerick and cannot include the work Nantucket (though some leeway will be tolerated). Shipping will be included.

What is the prize, you ask? We have just developed a new windscreen for canister-topped stoves: the Ocelot 6. This partial windscreen (~180 degree) was designed to accommodate pots up to 6” in diameter, yet able to nest inside the MSR Titan Kettle. There is a model for the Pocket Rocket Stove as well as the Soto WindMaster 4 Flex. We will be giving one away here in this contest and we are also supplying one to David for the GGG at Henry Coe State Park. The contest will run until August 20th or when my granddaughter is due: whichever comes first, where a winner will be randomly selected.

Ocelot 6 (Pocket Rocket and Soto WindMaster 4-Flex).  Launch date, early to mid August.

Front view (180 degree wrap).  3 componets: weight about 40 grams.  All Stainless Steel

Shown with an Evernew 1.3 liter pot and a Pocket Rocket Deluxe

The Pocket Rocket version nested inside an MSR Titan Kettle.  The Soto version fits inside a Snow Peak Trek 700.

There once was a backpacker named Fong,

Whose stoves were light, compact and strong.

To cook his oatmeal,

He tried plastic and steel,

But found titanium is never wrong.

An Ontario hiker observed
This situation is absurd
I can’t even eat my Doritos
Due to these awful mosquitos
All hail our national bird

There was a young couple from Boulder,
who trekked with gear slung from a shoulder.
But time was unkind,
and so they resigned,
to car camping as they grew older.

Who dropped that dime from 45’

what a time to be alive

am I the first on the saddle

since they fought that battle

did their dream survive

This backcountry chef has got tricks

I can balance a pot up on sticks

I can shelter a boil

With aluminum foil

But I’d prefer an Ocelot 6

Here is a video going into details about the new Ocelot 6. The parts came in early so the winner will have a choice of an Ocelot 5 for either the Pocket Rocket Deluxe or the Soto WindMaster 4 Flex.  An Ocelot 6 for the Pocket Rocket Deluxe will also be sent to David for the GGG 2023.

Ocelot 6: PRD.  All Stainless Steel and weighs 35 g.

Stove will not need you to shelter it

While gale knocks over your crab bucket.

Use piezo or bics

With an Ocelot 6

One can cook on the beach at Nantucket!

That clever designer called Fong

Made spirit stoves that did pong

He switched to gas

And that saved his ass

And now he’s down with the throng

August the twentieth is near
The poems, ever so dear
Limericks are fun
The contest ‘bout done
Soon, it is time for a beer

Only a few days left to submit a limerick. Just a reminder, the contest ends on August 20th or whenever our granddaughter arrives: Whichever comes first. Good Luck!

Wait, shouldn’t I be giving YOU a celebratory gift instead of the other way around? Congratulations, Jon! And thank you!

Also, thanks for conducting such a fun and community-building contest! I’ve greatly enjoyed the entries and the camaraderie.
