Does anyone know where I can buy spring steel wire suitable for making a pop up tent? I can only find it on Alibaba and I’m not ready to buy 500 foot of the stuff yet.

Could you use the wire inside car window shades. They are pretty cheap.
So, I am not sure what you are doing but music wire ( spring steel) is readily available from McMaster Carr. The difficulty it determining your loading and spring requirements in order to select the correct wire diameter. Those calculations will take a longer time than sourcing the wire. My 2 cents.
