Yes, lots of red curb. The trailhead there is for Eaton Canyon Falls as well as Henninger Flats and it’s a narrow road. The no parking areas help control some of the mayhem. Parking is available before you get to the trailhead on Pinecrest and past the trailhead on Pinecrest as well as Bowring Dr. Pay close attention to the signs so you don’t park in a 2 hour or no overnight parking zone. I’ve never had a car security problem up there.
The other trailhead is on Altadena Drive. Map: http://tinyurl.com/kp4gy7m
The Pinecrest trailhead closes around 7pm. The Altadena Dr. trailhead is always open. You just need to head north to the bridge from the Altadena Dr. trailhead. There are trails going everywhere in the wash and it can get confusing.
Apr 20, 2017 at 1:54 pm #3464216Thanks Don. Hope to make it down.
Apr 20, 2017 at 2:44 pm #3464225Hope you do Ken. We’ll leave the light on for you.
Apr 20, 2017 at 10:54 pm #3464281It would be cool if you make it Ken.
Apr 22, 2017 at 10:12 am #3464425I am cleared for launch. See you there!
Apr 22, 2017 at 11:44 am #3464434Have a great time! Post pictures :)
Apr 22, 2017 at 12:36 pm #3464440Great Ken.
If you’re coming in Friday and you’d like to meet at my house, drop anything off, clean up, change, etc. you’re more than welcome to. I can get home from work by ~1:30 PM. Tom and Doug will be stopping here first. I’m only a few miles from the trailhead.
Apr 22, 2017 at 1:39 pm #3464449Thanks much. I have your number.
Apr 24, 2017 at 3:43 pm #3464686Eleven days to go!!!
Here are some shots from the first GGG/SOCAL at Henninger Flats in 2014 courtesy of Angus.
Apr 24, 2017 at 6:04 pm #3464728I’m in. This will be my first GGG.
Apr 24, 2017 at 6:08 pm #3464729Ok so I have a really fun trip planned with very good friends in Arizona that weekend. If the trip falls through I’d like to head out to Cali to join y’all. I don’t need to rsvp or anything, right? I can just show up?
Apr 25, 2017 at 9:51 am #3464813No rsvp required. We’re pretty easy going here. You may not even get flak for saying “Cali.” Hope you can make it.
Apr 25, 2017 at 10:15 am #3464814lol I thought “I said Cali?” and then saw that I clearly did. #awkward
May 1, 2017 at 3:14 pm #3465770Sigh, I’l not be there. Renee is having a bout of vertigo. Spent my travel money on a sweet treadle sewing machine. You all have the best of time.
May 2, 2017 at 11:59 am #3465919Put it on your calendar for next year Ken. We’ll miss you.

May 3, 2017 at 4:24 pm #3466047Hey guys, I’ll be missing this year’s GGG sadly. Have a deployment scheduled for this weekend and I have to work :(
Looking forward to the photos.
May 3, 2017 at 5:21 pm #3466052I’m a definite maybe – Saturday to Sunday only. I really want to head up and meet the other SoCal GGs. Plus another night in the hammock. Sounds like I might need a tarp for this one afterall.
Looking at the map (links), and sat images, I see the Pinecrest route and the mostly red curbs
I also see a pullout on Altadena (2202-2248 N Altadena Dr). Is that the one that’s always open? Can you park overnight in that pullout? I assume there is a way to cut-over to the trail, or do you just walk straight north to the bridge I see on the Pinecrest route?
Last one I see is an Eaton Canyon Trailhead on Veranda Ave (further S) that looks like there is ~100+ parking spaces, but a sign that says something about 7-7, and parking lot gate closes. So if I get there before 7pm can I park and let them lock the gate at 7pm?
My wife’s going in for a medical procedure Friday, so if all’s well my son and I will see you Saturday afternoon or evening. If not – happy trails!

May 3, 2017 at 5:31 pm #3466054I have always parked off Pinecrest on Bowring. It’s an option. But last time I had the bad luck of showing up the next morning and the gate was still locked at 9 am, it was raining, was supposed to pick someone up at the at LAX at 10, and had to sprint down to the trailhead and take a long wet haul back up the road.
I recommend a different spot for that reason, but I don’t have any personal experience with parking overnight at the turnout or trailhead.
May 3, 2017 at 8:07 pm #3466082You can park overnight in the “pull-out” at 2202-2248 Altadena trailhead where there is no gate. Personally I’d probably park on a nearby residential street due to occasional partying in that area.
If you head go down the trail and head east across the wash you run into a dirt road. Heading northwest up the canyon there is a trail that switchbacks up the ridge past a place call Moist Canyon on Google Maps and eventually runs into the Mt. Wilson Toll road leading to Henninger Flats. I don’t know what the condition of the trial is.
I would recommend continuing up the dirt road till you get the the bridge and turning right on the Wilson Toll Rd. This is all very visible on the Google satellite view.
The gate on Pinecrest should be open till at least 7pm so overall that to me is a better option if the timing is right for you.
The Veranada option is a longer hike. If you wanted to do that I would ask at the Nature Center about the parking. I would probably be OK to park overnight but I’m not sure.Hope you can make it Bob.
May 4, 2017 at 11:27 am #3466151Don,
Sorry, I’m going to end up missing it this weekend. I was looking forward to catching up, meeting other members and checking out everyone’s gear. Work (commercial) came up and it’s too busy to squeeze it in between. I just got back from hiking CA Section A of the PCT though which was fun!
Best,
The Other Don
May 4, 2017 at 11:43 am #3466154Sometimes life interferes…
Hope we can get together later for some trail time.May 4, 2017 at 11:54 am #3466156Chance of showers is getting higher.
I’ll probably bring a spare 12′ x 12′ tarp just in case….
May 4, 2017 at 12:19 pm #3466159I was hoping this weather front would slow down but apparently no such luck. A 12’x12″ tarp would be great if you’re willing share it. :)
I guess I’ll have to pack my umbrella at least.May 4, 2017 at 12:51 pm #3466166Rain makes for great bonding on a trip. Better stories :)
May 4, 2017 at 1:47 pm #3466176And more gossip about those that aren’t there.
