I posted earlier this week regarding being on a trip and losing my phone, camera and car key.  I found the items by being extremely lucky the next day but I wonder is there some form of smart device that could have lead me on my route in reverse and guided me to where I had been.  All only being used in the field.

I had recorded my daily route on my garmin fenix 6 watch and I could view the route but did not see how to follow the route  the next day to be guided back.  Is there a method of doing thing on Garmin watches or some other device.  I got one answer on a Garmin forum that said it could only guide me back before saving or ending my recorded route and I get the impression that is true.

I was only use to after the trip viewing my route online but can this be done in the field simply using the watch or some other form of watch or does the Garmin InReach or other brands similar devices do this.

Im definitely NOT the person to answer this or give advice on tech savy stuff.. but i Think thats what a breadcrumb trail is. I am probably way off.. so someone else can chime in here..

You could export the route from yesterday and load that as a course to be followed today.

As others have stated, enable tracking or breadcrumbing to record your rute.  But keep in mind that the track is not always accurate: you can get false signals due to pinging off of rock structures and canyon walls.  Hope that helps.

I got a response from someone that I do not see here regarding using a printed map and compass.  I had those items and have used them decades before before the cell phone existed but please explain to me how they could have allowed me to locate a lost item.
