My wearable quilt is way warmer than a jacket. It’s got more down and it covers my knees. I can pull my whole self inside when sitting around. I wear it sitting up in my sleeping bag while having morning coffee. It is easy to wear/put on but it is hard to wear while squatting to pee, but I can do it. JRB makes a 20 degree version and last I looked they also make added sleeves you can wear with it. It looks ridiculous to wear but I love being warm and toasty so I don’t care.

Food for thought there
Thanx Diane
Hmmm… My 3 season solution, from 75 F. to 10 F. is a Western Mountaineering mummy that was a warm 30 F. bag but I had the factory overstuff it to 20 F.
At 75 F. I use it fully unzipped as a quilt.
At 10 F. I wear medium polyester long johns under puffy pants and jacket W/ a light fleece balaclava.
So far (in my solo Moment DW tent) I have been “cool enough” or warm and comfy, as the situation dictates.
My mattresses are REI FLASH Insulated (3 season) and FLASH All season (winter)

What you’re talking about here is a sleep system – combining clothing and quilt/bag for flexibility.
PHD in the UK have been researching this idea for years. They have a whole section of their website on the performance you can expect from different combinations, and how to match the system to the conditions. If you dig around, there’s a lot of info here:
https://www.phdesigns.co.uk/what-is-sleep-systems
Weight for weight, a quilt/bag alone will always be lighter than clothing + a bag with the same warmth. So you only save overall weight if you absolutely need the clothing you are using in your sleep system for other uses, and can guarantee that it will always be dry enough to sleep in.
My experience in stretching a 3 season sleeping bag (factory overstuffed WM Megalite W/20 F. lower limit) has been very satisfactory. I was using an Eddie Bauer down jacket (see my avatar) and medium weight polyester base layer with “sleep socks” and light fleece balaclava at 10 F. in a TT Moment single wall solo tent.
That said, my Megalite model bag is cut larger in the shoulder and torso area than the regular WM bags so it easily accommodated the puffy jacket. The slim WM Summerlite bag would not have been good for this.
