Have any of you guys had luck sharing expensive equipment with other BPLers or friends?

I want to get a spot GPS device but if you do the math it’s about $1000 a year.

Rather pricey.. makes sense to find someone to share with.

How did you come up with $1000 per year?

Just one less PBR a day and you’ve got it covered.

Yes, I do frequently. Most often with electronics. I’m in the Aleutians right now with a friend’s inReach. I loan out my PLB and VHF marine radio. I’ve loaned cars to other BPLers and gotten rides to trailheads for my trips. There are six of us on Adak with only three rifles. We’re all rotating through a base camp Manfred set up saving everyone time and weight on their way by it.

My triple kayak has been on more spectacular trips than I have (e.g. Homer to Seward via the Gulf of Alaska). I don’t have a boat with a motor, but there’s one I can always borrow. Dip nets, set nets, halibut rods, canoes, etc.
