Hi – I leave next week for the Sierra High Route. Does anyone know if the Three Rivers Ranger Station is open and the right place to pick up a wilderness permit for the Copper Creek trailhead? I have a letter confirming my reservation and usually I pick up the permit a day ahead at the local ranger station. But I can’t get anyone live at Three Rivers and on the web it says Three Rivers is temporarily closed.

Appreciate any help!

Roads End is where permits for Copper Creek get issued (in normal times).  Perhaps someone can attest to whether the Road’s End station is open.  Absent that, call the park to confirm.

AFAIK permits are being issued online only.

And yes the ranger station closest to that TH is Road’s End. Likely closed.

We went to Hamilton Lake a few weeks ago and ran into a Ranger

SEKI just switched service providers and their computers, phone and infrastructure is all F’ed up.  They are having trouble confirming reservations, BUT as long as you have a reservation number, you are good to go.  When we went, they were limiting reservations to 12 per trailhead (1/2 of normal).  They also realize that 50% of the people backpacking right now do not have reservations.  Good Luck!

I had no luck getting a permit emailed to me through their official instructions. I did succeed when I phoned the ranger station and asked someone there to email it to me.

I had to call every day the week before I left.  They did finally get back to me in email form three days before I left telling me they planned to call and …. they called me next day. Timed perfectly, they called when trying to get around a traffic accident in front of me while ranger explain Bear policy and procedures.   But maybe good,  I met 3 up close and alone in 8 days. No idea bears were that active in SEKI.
