My membership (premium) is about to expire here on 1/7 and I’ve gotten two e-mails saying “Renew Now to Receive 20% Off!” but when I click the link I see no such discount, nor code anywhere in the e-mail? Does anyone know whats up with this? I’ve opened a support ticket but haven’t heard anything in a couple days now.

Also, was there an announcement that the lifetime memberships would be going away completely? I was going to finally splurge for a lifetime but of course now with the recent changes it appears those are no longer available, it sure would’ve been nice to have had a heads up so I could’ve bought one while they were still around.. :(

Additionally the same e-mail, that I received January 1st (another also December 18th) still says;

“Or renew for a LIFETIME for even more benefits and never get an email like this again.”

I received the same emails! I asked BPL about the Lifetime membership (which I was going to spring for also) and was told they were no longer offered. I asked about the 20% discount and I was told I would receive a coupon code. I never received one. I again received the 20%/lifetime offer and I again asked for the coupon code that I was told I would receive. My request went unanswered. I asked at least two more times for the coupon code, and never received a response. Mind you, this is after I was told I would received the coupon code in an email. My subscription expired yesterday, so I had no choice but to renew for full price. Now, if I was never offered 20% off I would not feel the way I do, but I was told that I would receive the code. Likewise, if there was some sort of announcement that lifetime memberships were no longer being offered, I would have purchased one before they stopped. I was just waiting until my membership was closer to the end date. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement.

yeah, I’m not gonna lie I’m pretty disappointed with BPL since the new website transition… at this point I plan to drop down to a forum subscription when it comes time.

2 days since I started this thread, no response.
5 days since I e-mailed support, no response.
I e-mailed Ryan on 12/16, no response.

I have a big problem with a paid subscription model that has zero customer service communication…

The irony of getting another e-mail today saying “Renew Now to Receive 20% Off!” then of course it providing no such discount, still no e-mails responded to, still no ticket answered, and my account also expiring today, well I’m dropping to a forum subscription at this point.

For the record, I don’t even care about the discount so much as I’m disappointed by the complete and utter lack and disregard for communication and customers by BPL.

I can’t believe that backpacking light even calls themselves a website!  Total lack of customer service and the 20 % off renewal s a joke! What’s up Ryan!

The powers that be do not monitor this forum. It is here for members to help other members before they file a support ticket. File another one.

Did you ever hear anything on this Joshua? Going through the same thing here. Opened a ticket, emailed support, no response. Pretty sure I will not be renewing if it isn’t worth BPL’s time to help me give them money.

Nope! Never heard back, finally they had another sale and I reluctantly renewed.. Ok, I did hear back but it was about 1-2 months after I opened the ticket and sent multiple emails and already “solved” my own problem. If you didn’t get the latest email there are limited lifetime memberships available! /sarcasm. To the tune of a 100% mark up from the original price of $99, they’re $199 now and BPL never gave us any warning or last chances to upgrade before sticking it to us. The good news is the website is no better than before, and the quality of the content is you guessed it, the same.. Which was very lackluster before. BPL is a joke, and their customer service sucks. How dare they raise their prices pretending to add more/better content and then fail to deliver as well as not respond to emails and tickets for support…

It’s good to hear that BPL has improved, but it sounds like some minor customer service issues remain even today,

I missed the latest deals.  Or didn’t read the spam.

updaye; just got my copies.

FWIW, I also got a “renew now and get 20% off” email, but without a coupon code to make the discount happen.  Since this was a “known” issue, I used the “contact BPL” feature to request the code — it took about a week and some back-and-forth, but Regan (BPL’s support person) did send me a code that worked (so I didn’t have to resort to my “plan B”, which was to renew at a lower level).

And yes, all renewals automatically default to an “auto-renew” option, which is something I hate!

I don’t see how to check

a). The date my current subscription ends

b) if the purchase extends the subscription one year from today, or the end of the current active subscription.

if you have 2 months left and they start the new year at purchase, then is it a discount ?

Looks like the database is still somewhat broken.  I’m also getting regular time to renew emails despite having renewed just last month.
