I started with a Goretex 15oz Alpha SL ArcTeryx jacket a dozen years ago then over the years accumulated 5 lightweight DWR coated jackets in the 6-7oz range, 3 are Marmot Essence jackets. These seemed to work pretty good for a year then loose a lot of their water shedding performance. I live in CO, we don’t get much sustained rain but I’m planning a 9 day adventure and would like to find something a bit better than my Essence jackets but less than the weight of my Alpha SL. For the record, I tried re-applying the DWR on my jackets with GearAid cleaner and treatment but the results were very underwhelming (could be my fault). What’s out there? I’ve been out of the loop on jackets for a few years now and don’t know where to start! No tight budget, I’ll consider anything if it really works.

I’m your neighbor in Utah and the majority of the time I’m rocking a softshell instead of my hardshell jackets.
Mind you, I prefer higher elevations and cooler weather for outdoor adventures, but I’ve been caught in wet snow and rain with nothing but a Black Diamond Alpine Start and been perfectly fine. Their NanoSphere DWR is pretty phenomenal.
