Mar 10, 2018 at 10:20 pm #3523618I sleep cold, – this would be for season-3 trips. Trying to stay perched atop a CCF pad is not my idea of hassle-free sleep. The contenders are –
Thermarest XTherm R:           R-5.7, 15.0 ounces, 2.5″ thick
Exped Synmat HL Winter M:   R-5.0, 15.2 ounces, 3.5″ thick
I’m leaning towards the Exped because of the low noise factor (personal experience) and the consistency of the R-value due to it’s thickness.
Are there other matts to consider ?
TIA
Mar 10, 2018 at 10:50 pm #3523623Like many others, I’ve never been bothered by the noise factor when I’m sleeping on the Xtherm, though I suspect I might be bothered if my partner tossed and turned on one.
But your point about consistency of R-value on the Exped is worth considering.
Mar 11, 2018 at 12:15 am #3523635I’ve never been bothered by my Xtherm’s noise. Xlite is another story and seems louder.
Mar 11, 2018 at 12:29 am #3523639Having used both the Exped and the T’Rest I have now settled on the Sea to Summit Comfort Plus as my Go-To mat for all seasons.

Sea to Summit Comfort Plus:  R-5.0,  26 ounces, 2.5 inches thick

I’m not complaining or trying to be picky – just trying to identify options. Thanks for yours.
Mar 11, 2018 at 1:58 am #3523654I really like my X-Therm and don’t find it overly loud. I have used Exped Downmats in the past and they are really warm as well.
Mar 11, 2018 at 3:07 am #3523663Noted, Just trying to give an indication of how comfortable I personally found it. I have written to S2S a few times telling them they need a short mat that people could use as a comfort boost but they are not looking at that option so far. My Neo-Air is the old Short /Wide that is no longer available and that worked but it meant I really needed the CCF as well
I do see that S2S no longer list dimensions or weights on their website, I wonder why that is?
