Do you use a cinched or sewn toebox, and for what temp rating? Do you find that you sleep with the toebox open at times?

I’m looking to pick up a 20F Katabatic quilt and am wondering if the extra $55 for a sewn toebox is worth it. I’ll mainly be doing spring and summer backpacking, maybe a bit of mountaineering mixed in. Any thoughts?

do you get cold feet easily? I own both a Revelation and a Enigma, and it is easy enough to pull your feet out of the Enigma on warmer nights but I have known people who get cold feet easily and do not think the Revelation footbox is warm enough  even when cinched closed all the way. If you don’t get cold feet and are a warm sleeper and think that being able to open your quilt all the way is something you would do a lot then the Revelation, if you do not sleep as warm and get cold feet and would like to save a little weight then the Enigma.

With a 20F Katabatic quilt, either a cinched or sewn foot box would likely work fine for you for 3 season use in WA state. Mid summer can be very mild at night in WA (50’s F), especially in the Olympics, along the coast and near or below treeline in cascades, so you may like the cinched toe box for those conditions. On the other hand, I’ve never felt overly hot with a sewn toe box 20F EE Enigma in those conditions – it’s easy to ventilate well with any quilt.

Answering the question for yourself regarding your tendency to have cold feet is the key factor. Assuming that we are constraining the issue to WA State mountain climate (no hot desert or tropical weather).

I do most of my trips in the Cascades and Olympics.  And I switched from a cinched to a sewn toe box. I found I was never using the cinch opened.  But, I do tend to have cold feet and very much like warm feet when sleeping.

My core sleeps hot, though my feet tend to air a bit on the cold side, though not particularly bad.

I’m mainly in the Cascades and Olympics for now, though i might move to another state in the future. More than likely I’ll want a similar bad regardless, as I imagine I’ll be in a similar climate.

@Link, I’ve also been eyeing Nunatak as my other option, it just depends on price and what options I need. If i go off the shelf Katabatic is probably preferable, but I’ll see once I have a firm idea if what i need.

I also own a Katabatic, If I were to choose just one I would pick the Nunatak
