Pondering a SUL tent

I used to use a tarp until it rained hard one night.

Handling the water coming from underneath was beyond my capabilities. I think it is easier to channel the drainage with a tent. Still, if I had had a perfect mound of duff to sleep on I would have been ok…

Until the bugs showed up.

A very satisfied user of the Notch Li here. I decided to go for the solid inner option for a 2 ounce penalty and found that drafts in windy conditions are nonexistent while condensation stays on the inside of the fly. My solution to the packing issue with struts installed is to carry it in stuff sack in side pocket of my  pack,  easy to get to right away and no problem if tent is wet, as it is away from everything else. It is a great little tent.

Dennis, are you bothered with how transparent the Notch Li is? That’s the one thing holding me back. As a sometimes solo camper, and often with groups in which I would like a bit of privacy, I don’t like the tissue paper thinness, or more so, the color. Maybe not an issue for you. How many times have you used it?

Yes, Karen, it is thin, but the solid inner really creates enough opacity to solve the issue, at least for me. I would think the net inner would probably be more of an issue. Used this summer and fall for 4  trips, totaling about 20 nights.  Hope to improve on that mediocre number next year!
I think Tarptent would let you return it if you just try it out in your backyard to check opacity for yourself.
