when I’m in the grocery line and someone cuts in…it’s not fair. Granted, park permits are far more complicated than a grocery line. still, companies like Campflare remind me of those wall street companies who’ve paid millions to install computers that have a half second advantage on everyone else. Why invest? You can’t win. Campflare tilts the field to a degree that makes playing by the rules seem pathetic. And so…people will simply wildcat, and go in on their own. Anarchy follows.

I have never applied for a permit in either Aus or Europe. I think ‘they’ (Parks) did try to introduce a permit system here in Aus at one stage, but no-one took the slightest notice.
‘They’ also tried (twice) to introduce mandatory exam-qualifications for all trip leaders. Same story. In that case I think there were some commercial tour group operators trying to shut all other walkers out of prime alpine regions.
That’s Australia. A bunch of ex-convicts.
Cheers
Nobody has mentioned that for the average software engineer, it’s trivially easy to write a bot that will open 100 tabs and automatically enter for a permit the moment it becomes available. Many people are doing this.
A backcountry concervancy token on the Blockchain that you had to enter for all reservations to public lands, and that would decrease your chances or increase your fees if you no showed, got a ticket for leaving trash or camping too close to water, etc etc could work. But you know we live in a post democracy hell where people use freedom to justify all manner of anti social behavior.
thanks
I think you could do stand up if you get tired of your software engineering job :)
I’ll have to use that line, very true, which makes it good comedy
