So apparently Patagonia no longer makes or sells the lightweight or silkweight long sleeve 1\4 zip capaline shirts. So disappointing.. It was one of my fair and warm weather favorite shirts to wear.. Not only hiking but everyday also!

Does anyone know of a comparable 1\4 zip neck top? I really hope they bring it back.

Yeah, one of my favorite shirts. I bought three on closeout this past winter figuring Patagonia would quit making them. My intuition proved correct.

I do have the OR Echo 1/4 Zip, and its excellent too.

I have used both the cap lightweight zip neck and the Echo zip neck and they are quite similar, though the cut of the Capilene lightweight was trimmer which I like. I still have 2 of them but I too was unhappy when I went to get another and found them gone.

OR Echo and Rab Pulse are the same material (I think OR was the first to use it).   I have no idea why Patagonia discontinued these

Supremely happy with the material of the OR Echo as a hot/warm weather layer.

Is there any difference between the ‘old’ Echo L/S Zip Tee and the ‘new’ Echo 1/4 Zip except the name ?

The fit is slightly slimmer in the 2020 Echo line and the seams are in different places, but the material seems to be exactly the same.

puzzling as to why Patagonia would eliminate it’s  lightweight shirt base layer line.

did they eliminate the entire lightweight Capilene line?  or just the zip long sleeve?

if it’s the entire line, then that’s really crazy!

The entire line was gone last I looked.  I’m sure it will be back at some point, perhaps with the same fabric, perhaps with different fabric.

Wow- that’s like dumping the Houdini or R1

this could also be a supply chain issue… not listed because they don’t have any to sell.

As to dumping the R1.. they have done that at least once.  When it was first released (early 2000s?) it was super popular to guides and other with pro deals, and almost no one else bought them, so it got taken off the market after just a year?.  for several years after that my climbing buddies were in constant seeking mode or used R1 hoody when their wore out… some friendships were stressed when R1s mysteriously disappeared.  Something like 5 years later the R1 hoody was back and there was much rejoicing (except for those of us who had switched to the R.5 :)

“puzzling as to why Patagonia would eliminate it’s  lightweight shirt base layer line.”

They do that with some of their most popular products, like the Capilene mens briefs of yore.  Agree it is completely mystifying, and no amount of ranting and raving on online has any effect.  Guess you could say they are ‘supremely indepenent.’  Wouldn’t we all like to be that.  Glad you found similar products on BPL.

Just an update.  After posting this and seeing most everyone say the Outdoor Research  Echo was very much similar to the Patagonia silk weight capaline, i went ahead and picked up 2 of them, long sleeve 1/4 zip neck.

Excellent!!! Just Excellent.  I have been wearing them just about every day lately the last month or so and they are exactly what I was looking for. I will definitely grab a few more to have. The thumbholes are perfect, better then the “String” on Patagonia, they are nice like on the R1, kind of. The zip neck is smooth zipper and the material is similar if not almost the same.. average me can barely tell a difference, lol. Thanks again for everyone’s input.

Preface I use Patagonia but also other manufacturers layers, so no favoritism beyond “best use” for my activities/circumstances.

Patagonia’s “Cool” Daily Capilene is still in stock like normal, though  in most colors (took a photo of the various Capilene cools but can’t post).   I’ll use this for summer athletic wear (including hiking) after wearing the LS version in winter as a … daily informal layer when away from home.

So it doesn’t look like they are getting rid of the Capilene name and “eco” wise these layers are recyclable by getting rid of them at a Patagonia store.

Wondering if it’s a supply issue with the thicker weaves or something else?   Like maybe marketing the “daily-cools” for a lighter base layer?

Add another thought is maybe Patagonia may have been advised or saw winter sales of  specific layers down.
