Used the Sawyer Micro filter in nine different bodies of water while on a recent  ten day Isle Royale packrafting adventure and filtered an estimated total of ~100 L/26 gal of water. The water to be filtered in the Sawyer squeeze bag was scooped from shore in a Ziploc® 32 oz. Twist ‘n Loc® Container to asserting the cleanness/particular matter in the water before dumping it into the plastic squeeze bag. (We also used a BeFree filter on the trip to compare the Micro and as a backup, even though I felt it was not necessary and was not.) The Micro & BeFree filters were used by the three of us on the trip and each marveled at the rate of filtration compared to the BeFree!! We back flushed with the syringe 3x after EACH days filtering. (Suggested to Sawyer that tubing be placed on the syringe to aid in back flushing as shown in the attachment.)

The newly designed 1 liter squeeze bag that was provided with the filter preformed wonderfully without issues and I felt a far better design to that of the 2nd generation bags currently in production and used with the Mini & Original hollow fiber Squeeze.

The Micro will be a winner in the future without a doubt, and I know will be front stage to the BeFree with the ability of back flushing, 100,00 gal capability/Lifetime warranty, weight SAWYER MINI-SQUEEZE FILTER – wet (.1 micron)(2.3oz)/  SAWYER MICRO SQUEEZE FILTER – wet (.1 micron)( 2.8oz), new product “soft” bag (0.4oz) & adaptability to other bottles, and a clean 0.1 micron absolute filtration water flow equal to the BeFree!

Here is the link for the new filter on Amazon…..$28.99

Geez, I just bought the Squeeze to replace my mini….if the Micro really is as fast as the BeFree it will be the solution to the main complaint I had with the BeFree….inability to field clean/back flush.

Thanks for taking the time post up your field review!

Hard to really to tell on the comparison video as they are comparing new and used filters.  Backflushing helps but filters do clog.  I hope to get a new Sawyer Squeeze soon and do a comparison test with my original squeeze.

BTW, Sawyer use to claim the Squeeze had a 1,000,000 gallon lifespan.  Given these numbers, it should have an order of magnitude more filter than the Micro/Mini.  My 2 cents.

I received an interesting response from Sawyer about the 1,000,000 gallon claim on the original Sawyer Squeeze.  Interesting because they are claiming 100,000 lifespan on the Micro.

If you have purchased any of our water filtration products that came with our One Million Gallon Guarantee. We will of course honor that commitment to you.
However recently that guarantee was challenged by one of competitors by filing a complaint with the National Advertising Division of the U.S. Better Business Bureau. They challenged our ability to support that claim scientifically. Unfortunately the data which we feel supports the claim contains proprietary information that we are unwilling to share. Therefore while these products are exactly the same, they will now come with a revised warranty; which is a Lifetime Warranty against any manufacturing defects. The filters contain a code such that we will know under which warranty you purchased the product.
We are proud to say that throughout the millions of filters which we have shipped in the U.S. retail market and throughout the world for disaster relief and for home use in developing nations very few have ever been returned for damage to the filter as a result of our handling or in distribution. Each of our filters is tested 3 times to insure that they will work as claimed. Not some random statistical testing but every single filter is tested three times at three different quality control points throughout its assembly process.

I’m most interested in the “bottle breather” — I’ve stuck with a hydration bladder for a long time, despite its disadvantages, simply because I drink a lot more when I have a little nozzle right by my mouth. What I’d really like is to be able to drink from a tube coming out of a bottle… I know there’s the Blue Desert SmarTube, but it doesn’t seem an especially well-designed or robust product. The Sawyer bottle breather looks pretty good… though, it also looks like they’re not actually selling it yet.

I’m with Jon Fong.

The youtube video is hardly an informative comparison.

You can’t compare new filters with old, used ones.

There’s no way to determine how consistent the pressure being applied to the bags was in each test case.

So in the end, one really can’t draw any conclusions about the comparative flow rates of the various Sawyer models from this video, or how one might expect those flow rates to decrease with time.
