I’ve been using it since it came out, I’m pretty sure I was the first to ‘guinnypig’ it :)

I have posted a few times on r/ultralight about it. In short: It works for me. I’ve taken it down to 35* and been comfortable.

I’ve also had one for some time, purchased thru the AliExpress site. It cost me US$90.81, Shop2174067 Store. It is just now $87.50. Or mobile only deal $78.75 – from sherry online shop, who is not the seller I bought from (I think). And I notice that “sale starts in 7 days”. Several stores on AliExpress sell this item. Search the store name, or Aegismax > sleeping bag.

It looks good. I like the fabric, which is a little oily or greasy to the touch, but pleasantly so (waxy?); I like being able to wear it as a garment around camp – there is a good photo of it being worn – it has a head slit and appropriate ties. And of course the price.

The major drawback is that the baffles are (I think) just sewn thru, so when the temperature drops, those sew lines get cold. It would work better in a bivy bag, which would trap more heat. It is also a tad narrow, and not suitable for the tall or wide.

I prefer my EE Revelation Pro 850 DownTek GGD, which is definitely warmer; but for warmer conditions the Aegismax UL-X is good value.

(I’m having problems with posts disappearing).

Personally, for an awesome deal on down products, I would be much happier going with the just launched Econ line of Hammock Gear top and under quilts. Just realized I haven’t heard any references to them here yet…

I own 2 EE bags (a 20° 900FP and 50° 950FP) and I waited a long time to get them. I did get the 20° during their black friday sale for like $275. I think some of the cost of the EE come from 2 factors:

  1. Made in the USA
  2. They use RDS down*.

*I’m really not a tree-hugger-type, but it’s gotta suck to be a goose or duck and getting your feathers yanked out of you while you are alive. I’m ok paying a premium for gear that I will own for years so that I’m not contributing to something that’s kinda shi**y to do to these animals. http://responsibledown.org/

I’m down to bet that the Aliexpress cos are NOT using RDS down or anything even remotely ethical given that they stole (and claim they did) the design. Animal-ethics stuff aside, supporting this sort of business dissuades cottage companies from even getting started which is where the shady company got its idea and product anyway. I love saving $, there are better ways to do it.

Give me a break. You guys just elected a POTUS who won’t even concede global warming is real, and caused by human activity, and wants to dismantle EPA protection of the environment…

(that’s called putting the snow leopard among the muscovies)…

On the other side, what’s your stance with Zpacks selling Possum Down? Just as fucked up but I’m willing to bet the majority are willing to let them slide.

I can see this is going to get interesting, but I have to sleep, sorry.

That’s not really a very good example. The possum in New Zealand is a non-native species that’s doing significant harm to the NZ ecosystem. The NZ govt. encourages its eradication.

It states it’s only good to 8C therefore with 10 oz it’s not 850 goosedown.  Likely 650.  It would make the specs line up.

For $100 and 1lb though it is intriguing

Well said Doug!

The NZ government has an ambitious goal to eliminate three pest series (rats, possums and stoats) in the whole of New Zealand by 2050. Current methods of trapping, aerial 1080 poison delivery or shooting will not be sufficient to achieve this goal. Some form of biological and/or genetic control will be required.

That said, the kids experience some good hard conservation work, believe they are making a difference and make some reasonable pocket money for their efforts off trapping possums and plucking the fur (about 20 possums = 1 kg possum fur  = NZ$100).

What are the dimensions of the quilt.  Some of the sellers are saying 190 long and others 205

74″ long, 47″ wide at the head, 38″ at the foot, by my measurement, without stretching.

188 cm long, 119.4 cm wide at the head, 96.5cm at the foot, by my measurement, without stretching.

All care and no responsibility. Bought thru AliExpress (not ebay).

If we’re looking at the same bag, I think it’s rated 15-30F/0-5C, not 8C. Whether that’s true or not I don’t know, but those are the specs.

I think it is a good bag for someone wanting a cheap buy for mild conditions, especially at the $78.75 price. If you want quality and warmth buy EE. (Or is that an inappropriate content also?).
