I just posted this in a thread I started a while back, but decided it’s important enough to give it its own thread.  Here’s the deal:
<div class=”bbp-reply-content”>

I received the Nemo Dagger 3P a few days ago.  Just set it up this morning in the back yard.  It’s a great little tent.  With one very disappointing feature: The actual floor dimensions are significantly smaller than what was advertised.

The specs state the floor dimensions are 90″ X 70″.

But I’m measuring 84″ X 60″.

That’s quite a difference.

I like the weight, all the mesh at the top, the color, the ease of set up, the dual side doors.  BUT…  60 inches of width instead of the advertised 70 inches is a disappointment.  It will be cramped for my wife, our dog, and me.  I will ponder it a bit, maybe get all of us in the tent and see how it feels.  It’s possible I will decide to return it.   :-(

I’ll let you know what happens.  If I decide to keep it, I’ll come back to this thread with any updates about usage.  The set up is very easy for one person.  I do like that.

Can you stake it out a bit tighter to get closer to the spec’d dimensions? (Forgive me if you already tried that).

Hi Jim,

Yes, I had it staked out tightly when I took the measurements (but see below).  My wife and I just got in it again.  She likes it and thinks we’ll be okay in it.  I still have my doubts

Regarding the dimensions: If I measure corner to corner, staked very tight from corner to corner, I get 85 inches in length, 66 width.  However, on the inside of the tent if you take measurements from the center of each wall, and you push the fabric down to the ground (fabric that is curling up from the floor to the wall, so that you start your measurement at the furthest point you can go in the direction), run the tape measure to the other side, again pushing down the floor and taking the furthest point you can go in that direction, I get 60″ X 81″.  Ugh!

60″ X 81″ is a whole lot less than 70″ X 90″

Even taking the point to point corner measurements it’s still not to specifications.

If it were me, I would contact the company and request and exchange.  The reason being, that you did a lot of research to optimize your space requirements / weight.  You should get what you paid for as the dimensions are not close.  If they can’t meet that request, I would negotiate a discount based upon misleading specifications.  I would do that, but I am a fussy buyer.

here’s an update:  We kept the tent.  It’s tight for 2 of us plus our dog, but it served us well on a 4 day outing on the Colorado Trail near Molas Pass a couple weeks ago.  We were intending to do a 6 to 7 day outing, but our dog hurt her left hind leg on day 3, so we decided to head back early.

We like the tent, lots of great features.  We had blue sky the whole time we were out, so we never put on the fly.   We like all the see thru mesh on the tent with the fly off.  Bottom line is that it works for us and we’re happy with it so far.

I had the same issue with a Nemo  Spike 1, which I returned after talking to Nemo. Not only was the actual width narrower than advertised, 38″ vs 41″, but they counted the head of the tent twice, both as floor area and as a vestibule, even though you sleep with your head in it. This resulted in a real volume roughly 75% of what I expected.
