    Hey All!

Im planning on making a long weekend backpacking around the Wild Basin area in late May.   I was just curious what to expect bug wise.

I know bugs aren’t quite as bad in Colorado, but wanted to know what to expect during late May since we will be near lakes.

    Thanks!

In late May you’ll have ice or partial ice on the lakes and lots of deep, soft and wet snowpack in the lake areas of wild basin above approximate 10,000′, including Thunder and Bluebird lakes and Lion Lakes. You may be able to access Finch Lake without snow, depending on the snowpack condition. Probably not many mosquitos up high around the snow, but you may see them in the trees lower down.
