I am bang in the center of lower Michigan.
These have not been so successful this year. Â Last year we had 2 of them.

Winter camping anyone?
Nov 25, 2016 at 6:40 pm #3437363Do I stink?
Nov 25, 2016 at 9:27 pm #3437386Must of missed your last post Andy.
I do have notifications setup on this thread as was having issues before.
Definitely time for some winter camping, not very fit at the moment so would have to be low mileage.
Nov 27, 2016 at 3:26 am #3437511Mileage doesn’t matter to me. Â Just looking to get out.
I picked up a 8 man tipi with stove so hot tenting is an option if theres snow and I can use a sled.
Nov 28, 2016 at 11:35 am #3437673I hear you on looking to get out.
That Tipi could make a great party tent.
Nov 29, 2016 at 2:32 pm #3437834There are a lot of active meet up groups in MI.  The Grand Rapids Meetup group has a camping trip and a backpacking trip scheduled for this weekend, a Nordhouse Dunes backpacking trip in Jan. and usually a winter camping trip in Jan as well.  There are other active groups as well, including some in the metro Detroit and Ann Arbor areas as well.  There are also cross country ski meet ups.
SOLAR is also very active and has very good classes.
Plenty of ways to get out with others.
Nov 29, 2016 at 2:39 pm #3437837Stephen – just need some party tea lights!
Rob – facebook group or where?
Nov 29, 2016 at 3:00 pm #3437844Many of the groups are Meetup groups. Â Here is a link to the Grand Rapids group, for example:

6 AttendingYou can search Meetup for other groups, but the Grand Rapids group seems to do the most winter camping and backpacking. Â There is also the Michigan Adventurers club (Meetup) Adventure Quest (Meetup), Michigan Backpacking Meetup, and a newer group which tends to have a climbing focus but also does backpacking trips , the SE Michigan Outdoor Adventures club.
I don’t know too much about these groups other than the Grand Rapids group, which is the group I hike and camp with the most.
Here is a link to Solar’s Meetup page, which contains a link to the SOLAR website. Â I am not a member of SOLAR, but I took their basic and advanced land navigation classes and they are truly excellent.
