Hi all,
I would like to start a series of quick overnight meetups.
Between traveling back to Ireland\Scotland twice this year (I am Irish and wife is Scottish) and house projects\work commitments its increasingly hard for me to get away for longer trips at the moment.
Plan would be to meetup at lunch time for a 4-6 hour or so hike in and back out again next day.
If someone was coming from a bit further we could plan the start point near a campground to allow travel on the Friday.
Let me know if interested.
Cheers,
Stephen
Jun 9, 2016 at 7:57 am #3407898I would to plan on of these every 4-6 weeks all year round.
I go on trips with my wife and friends but they don’t like punching out many miles.
Jun 9, 2016 at 12:24 pm #3407957I’m in CO for the summer, but moving to Grand Rapids in August and would totally be interested in this. I’ll reach out when I get there!
Jun 9, 2016 at 12:47 pm #3407964Great, it would be nice to have you along on one of our famous trips.
Jun 10, 2016 at 4:22 am #3408090Stephen,
Over  time I have contemplated meet ups as there is no family member/friend nearby who is interested in packing with me. (Just had a thought; maybe it’s me!)
Plus, being more of an introvert I have avoided multi person hiking preferring solo trips.
That said, I have seen your other posts from the past winter about this and have since been ruminating on it. Perhaps if going with people who aren’t afraid of bad weather (an assumption) or other unforeseen obstacles, I might actually enjoy the company.
Keep me in the loop if you please. Starting to sound interesting.

Jul 10, 2016 at 3:54 pm #34135065 weeks until I’m in Michigan…let me know if you have anything planned in August/September!
Jul 10, 2016 at 6:12 pm #3413540Im looking to get out maybe this weekend if anyone is interested.
Andy – Let me know what week and Id be down for something. Â Ill be in colorado in 6 weeks. Â 14ers and just starting to look for a good 2-4 day loop.
Jul 11, 2016 at 4:52 am #3413601Count me out on that, Andy. Wife coming in from 2 weeks of being away on friday. Don’t think that would fly. I will be away in both early August as well as September and do not think i could swing a trip until late September or October.
Seems that as I transition into a retirement schedule (not fully, as still working some), my schedule fills up quicker. I had heard that happens.
I will keep my eyes on the thread…never know.
Happy Trails.
Rod
Jul 11, 2016 at 7:40 am #3413612I am good the last 2 weeks of August.
Jul 12, 2016 at 3:38 pm #3413867I’ll be in the state on August 15th! Need to get settled in and all, but I’m sure I can swing a quick trip shortly after getting there.
Jul 12, 2016 at 5:17 pm #3413880Hopefully we can work something out Andy.
July is normally too hot for my Irish blood, lets hope it cools down in August.
Jul 12, 2016 at 5:21 pm #3413881I am interested, count me in as well.
Jul 12, 2016 at 5:46 pm #3413885Welcome aboard Ted :-)
Jul 14, 2016 at 4:11 pm #3414287Manistee 67 as a high, 46 low for Friday. Â Saturday 78/57. Â Not bad guys….
I might head up to get some miles in. Â Maybe day hike it. Â Gotta get my feet ready for colorado.
Let me know if anyone is interested.
Jul 14, 2016 at 9:18 pm #3414353Tied up this weekend Andy.
I need a few weeks notice for a trip.
Jul 20, 2016 at 2:42 pm #3415282Andy – Not exactly sure what my work situation will look like, but I’m usually good for last minute trips. Looking forward to getting there!
Also, looking to do some bikepacking this fall, if anyone is into that.
Aug 2, 2016 at 2:16 pm #3417875Anyone free on the 27th Aug?
Aug 2, 2016 at 3:47 pm #3417904I will not be. Â Ill just be getting back from aColorado trip.
Aug 7, 2016 at 12:12 pm #3418780Maybe later in September, it will be cooler then and less bugs :-)
Have a great trip.
Aug 25, 2016 at 7:06 pm #3422591I’m still getting settled in here, but I’m definitely good for a trip in September!
Sep 7, 2016 at 5:36 pm #3424907I’ve taken off the 14-16th of October for backpacking. Anyone wanna actually make this work? Ha. Â I’d prefer not to do manistee case I’ve done it to many times but will if we can get a group together.
Id like to try the Lake Superior coastal trail if anyone is up to it. Â Probably not enough to time with driving….but I could maybe sneak out an extra day.
Sep 8, 2016 at 3:55 am #3424959Andy, sounds like a good idea. However, I expect that I will be excluded from most of the group outings because of my Sabbatarian conviction. Perhaps that is why I have done exclusively solo trips. A recent exception is with our pastor and another congregant who are in the process of planning a Manistee trail trip in early October; Thursday thru Saturday.
I will keep this subscribed to this thread just in case.
Happy Trails!
