Magnetic north pole moving 'pretty fast' towards Russia

“Since 2000, its speed jumped from about 9mph (15km/h) to 34mph (55km/h)”

34 miles a year is manageable.

34 miles an hour would be catastrophic.

Another Russian conspiracy

The administrative state will stoop to anything to attack Trump

(okay, was that funny or better keep my day job?)

okay, at least one vote for keep my day job

More sciencey publications talk about how the North and South reverse every once in a while, like every 100,000 years.  They theorize the pole will start moving around more before the reversal, like what’s happening now.  Not only does it screw up devices that care about magnetic north location, but there’s a period with no earth magnetic field to protect us from charged particles from the sun.  It won’t be a mass extinction event or anything, but it will be interesting to see what happens.  Maybe all our electronic devices will be destroyed by the charged particles.

At least we won’t have to worry about whether smartphones will destroy society : )

And your day job is what, Mr. @retiredjerry?

At least we won’t have to worry about whether smartphones will destroy society : )

I’m betting the phones get us before the mag-flip. :-)

Finally something to look forward to.

And just when I gave away all my beans and bullets. Time to start prepping again.

Notice nobody’s talking about the South magnetic pole moving rapidly, because it isn’t – about 9 mph according to certain journalists :-)

Some scientists say magnetic north is moving fast due to weird core lumps in the north, not because we’re about to flip poles. And pole flips typically take 1,000 to 10,000 years (except in Hollywood), so really not much to worry about in our lifetimes – or anyone else’s since we can’t stop it anyway.

I guess I missed some earlier stuff and I’ll just remove what I wrote.  I didn’t think it was really political but was lighthearted humor.

Someone else needs day job : )

At least the Magnetic north pole seems to be moving closer to true north.  Maybe that means a reversal is less likely.

Heyyy, why didn’t someone report Brad’s post as inappropriate????

Hmmm..  maybe my old age is accelerating.  My original Putin post is no longer inappropriate.  Maybe I just imagined that : )
