Looking for a new pack – potential options?

Alex – My SO pack is a Unaweep 4800 as it pre-dates the Divide.  I have carried 25lbs in it and it’s not an issue, but a little overkill on weight and bulk.    A Divide or even a Gila might do the job, but I would like to save a few ounces

Ditto. I find the Divide a dream to carry at any weight, but at 50 oz, seems like an easy pound to lose using a lighter pack for lighter loads. Whether that will be more comfortable or less fatiguing is another question. Put it this way – I wouldn’t trade down to a 40 oz pack, but I’d consider it for 30 oz.

I’m a little jealous of those for whom the Divide carries so well. I tried it and had issues with the hipbelt. I used to think it was too wide and was interfering with my leg/butt muscles on uphills, but after a recent bout with sciatic pain, I’m pretty certain the wide hipbelt of the Divide was just putting pressure on my sciatic nerve. I’d never felt pain like that before, almost a numbness sometimes.

Anyway, on the Onni, Katabatic has put some shockcord inside the side pockets to help water bottles from falling out. I ran an additional piece of shockcord across the outside of the side pockets whose tension I can adjust with a cordlock. This helps a lot.

I’ve read on the internet that ULA will make packs in X-Pac in case you are unaware and that ‘s helpful.

+1 on the Elemental Horizons Kalais if you don’t mind a little extra weight.  Otherwise…love the SWD packs, too.  The Kalais would probably be more comfortable with the weights you mentioned.

Another plus 1 for the Elemental Horizons Kalais,  Mine is constructed of X-Pac with spacious water bottle pockets which are easily accessible.  By far the Kalais is the most comfortable pack I have owned, killer hip belt.
