I put out this video 8 year ago, how to light Esbit using fire steel. It can take between 1-10 attempts to get it lit but it is a good skill to develop in case of emergencies.

I wonder if a blob of hand sanitizer would be easy to spark and hot enough to get an Esbit going.
We did Kalalau a couple of years ago and after hiking in that kind of heat/humidity what I really wanted was popsicles for dinner.
Hand sanitizer would work great. I would not normally ever light Esbit using Fire Steel, this is just a video to demonstrate that it can be done, not that you should deliberately count on it. Purely survival mode. My 2 cents.
