It’s 3 Layer GTX (not GTX Pro) but would the MontBell Storm Cruiser be an option? 10oz $300 and fully featured with pit zips and pockets.
I don’t think so. MVTR of the Storm Cruiser is probably half of this version of Gore tex active. Montbell lists 35000 on 1099 B1. For it to approach the Active jacket, it would require 50K or more. I would think the only issue here is durability. If you get Pro, you will end up with a more durable garment because it will have a much heavier face fabric but with less MVTR because of the heavier face fabric. Also, much higher cost. That is my two cents.
Hi Stephen
any idea about the MVTR of Goretex Active? (in respect to standard goretex and pro) I’m looking into Patagonia’s Ascesionist jacket.
Thank you very much in any case.

The MVTR of Gore Active seems to be a function of the weight of the face fabric. MVTR increases fabric denier decreases. The ascensionist jacket is 2400 g/m2/24 hr. with 30 denier face fabric. Mountain Hardware Quasar Light is 2840 with 14 denier face fabric. The Quasar Lite gives good MVTR/$ but with a face fabric that will be less durable than the much more expensive Ascensionist. 2800 is the best performance I have measured in any Gore jackets, with the exception of Shakedry.
Interesting. Thank you very much Stephen for the precise details.
ps: I found the Ascensionist for half of the price. I would never had a look into it with full price.
