Jetboil lid

Anyone have trouble with the lid popping off while stowed in a backpack?

The lid stays in place when I cook. I used it for the first time this weekend and really liked it, much easier than my XGK-EX, though I should say the XGK-EX has been bulletproof for ~100 uses with little maintenance. I should also say the Jetboil igniter failed on the second use (I carry matches, not a big deal).

I’m going to use a rubber band to hold it in place (and the contents nested inside) unless someone has a better idea.  This is a MicroMo in case it matters.

Yeah, they can pop off… My Jetboil travels nested with a mug and bowl in a mesh sack that keeps it all together.

I swapped out the heavy stock Jetboil lid with one of the Ruta Locura carbon fiber lids. I also made a custom DCF stuff sack for it, which keeps everything secure.

Yeah, Jeff, I just checked that – bummer, as they are (were) great lids.

It would appear that Rota Locura has discontinued their CF lids.

Indeed, I bought one of the last ones available for a Snowpeak Ti mug… I wish I had gotten one for my Ti Jetboil. Rats…

Concerning Jetboil lids:  I currently use a plastic lid from a canister of mixed nuts – it snaps on tight and is unaffected by the heat.  I cut a small hole for venting and a larger hole for pouring.  It is lighter than the stock lid, actually stays on tight, and is cheap and easy to replace. I have a cache of canister lids in my gear closet.  It can be tricky to find a lid of the correct size as they vary from product to product.

I have also used a piece of tin foil doubled over as a lid and that worked quite well also; again, easily replaced and recyclable.

@bradmacmt

The lids for Planter’s nuts (and also other brands), the small Crisco cans, and Ensure nutritional mix will all fit not only the Jetboil cup, but also the Vargo Bot 700 and an Evernew EN 400 cup. But I slightly disagree that that these plastic lids are unaffected by heat. They will stay on the pots, but I have occasionally had a heat-softened lid pop off when I poured the water out.

If in your local grocery, you happen upon someone with a TI pot testing all the container plastic lids for fit, you will know they are a BPL’er.

Manager: “Hey…you gonna buy something or what?”
BPL’er: “Maybe…”

UL geekery…not just for spoons :)

It is sad to see that Ruta Locura no longer makes the carbon fiber lids, but Four Dog Stoves does make titanium lids for some pots.  JetBoil isn’t listed, but I might snag one for my new Olicamp heat exchanger pot.  (https://fourdog.com/snow-peak-olicamp-titanium-lids/)  Perhaps he could be persuaded to put out some sizes for the JetBoils.

AFA the igniters, I have had very mixed results with various stoves and products at elevations above about 6,000 ft.  Some work, many do not.  Good that you had matches.

UL Geekery – yeah, Jenny knows how I am about this stuff. In fact, most of my grocery store pals know too. Many of them have suggested that I try certain products to see if some lids might fit. There was even a nice lady who was just shopping that I told what lid I was looking for, and she indulged me with a trip around the store to try to help find one for me. I’m a bit famous around these parts for being a serious gear geek with a somewhat creative bent.

For my Jetboil Zip I use a lid from a Campbell’s soup container.

Heck, I bought (and consumed the contents of) this just so I could make this.  Pretty excited about testing it out on my next trip too :)

So turns out the size of the plastic lid on the nut cans is fairly universal across a variety of products. The lid is .5oz lighter than the Jetboil OEM lid, and locks onto the JB pot far more positively than the factory lid. I don’t pour boiling water through the current JB lid, so wouldn’t do it through a peanut lid either.
