Anyone know anything about inexpensive Chinese softshell/fleece pants on AliExpress? Hard to say what they really are selling, e.g. “waterproof” I think really means DWR treated. Hard to beat the price, as low as $18. There are many listings, see for example:

I’ve been eyeing those for a while. They look good, I’ve had good experience with ali express. I’m sure they are not water proof but almost all soft shell says it is. I might have to get a pair, expect a month delivery time.
I bought a pair of large – way too small for me (5’8″, 180 lbs); I ordered XL – still too small; they are wearable but just too tight from waist to top of thighs.I’m going to order XXL next because I think they’ll be great pants for cool weather hiking.. Upon inspection they appear to be well made and well worth the low price; I cannot speak to waterproofness. But I’d suggest ordering two sizes up.
The item description states, “Fits true to size, take your normal size”….. don’t you believe it if you are a typical overweight American.
I just realized that the softshell pants I purchased are these (link follows); so I don’t know if the ones you are looking at have the same sizing problems.
Michael. I was looking at the sizing. It is Chinese sizing. I’m 5’11” and 195lbs. The chart says I need 3xl. I wear a medium or large in the US size.
This seller has a fit and size chart and I have ordered 6X just to be sure
guys can you tell me how warm these pants are? It is hard to tell from the pictures if they have much if any fleece on the inside. We were out this weekend and it was too cold for regular hiking pants and I really don’t like base layers and pants. These look like they would be warmer and good with wind. Are they stretchy?
My sale never went though so I will be unable to report back
Softshell/fleece pants arrived yesterday. Seem well constructed, pretty much as advertised and in the pictures. They are made of a thin fleece with nylon reinforcements at the knees, probably warmer than my usual nylon pants plus base layer bottoms. When I was younger all I needed on my legs was a thin layer, no matter what the temperature, as long as I was moving. Now I need much warmer clothing on my legs.
Note on sizing: I’m 5’5″ now (used to be over an inch taller) and 170 lbs (give me a break, I’m almost 65!) and I ordered XL. They fit but are a bit snug. The fabric is stretchy so they’d work, but they’ll fit my wife and/or adult kids better so I ordered 2XL for myself. You need to be generous with Chinese sizing.
Hard to go wrong with softshell pants costing only $20! I will try them out on a X-C ski trip this winter and report back.
These are the pants I bought – I am 5’8″ 180, 34+ waist. The XL was just a bit too tight for me, so I ordered XXL. They fit perfectly, are quite comfortable, and appear to be well-made. I’ve only worn them around town so far. BTW , I got 3% cash back by being a member Ebates.
Finally got to use my Chinese softshells X-C skiing, and they worked quite well. Very stretchy, too.
They are not as windproof as my daughter’s Columbia soft-shell pants, a bit lighter, but way, way cheaper. A bit warm when it was over 25 degF while skiing, fine otherwise. I don’t recall needing to wear windpants over them, but it didn’t get below 15 degF on the trip, and we were mostly moving while out.
I think they actually were $16 with the AliExpress first-time buyer’s discount.
Again, beware of sizing. My waist is 36″-37″and I needed the XXL (my wife got the XL).
I ordered the 4XL (36″ waist) and I think that they are too tight. My 2 cents
At 5’5″ and 32″ waist would you recommend XL or L?
I bought a pair for a friend that lives in Norway and he loves them, he is between 5’7″ and 5’8″ and has a 34 inch waist and XXL fit perfectly, if that helps you at all?
When you all say a waist size, is that the normal pants size or your physical waist? Also how is the length? I’m 5’11” I normally wear a 34 pants. I assumed I needed the 3xl based on the size charts they show.
My friend that I bought for wears a 34″ waist in his pants and a 30 inch inseam and the XXL fit him perfectly
The pair I got is very stretchy in the waist, so exact measurements are not crucial. I take about a 36″ or 37″ pants waist size and the XXL were fine, stretched a little, no belt needed. I imagine the 3XL would be a bit loose on me, requiring a belt.
I bought the pants linked below and ended up with XXL – I am 34″ waist.
