Getting the correct width of a quilt is very important to many. A lot of customers measure themselves side sleeping, stomach sleeping, etc and then apply those numbers when selecting the proper width.

These customers do not source a special stretchy tape measurer for this task! Likewise they also should not get a quilt that needs to be stretched to meet spec. Ludicrous. I do not know why anyone would argue that that’s how it should be?

If a M is substituted for an XL size then this is obviously wrong but also a bad analogy. We also know that the actual size of an XL varies not only by manufacturer but also at times between models.  We buy fabrics quoted as 60″ but hopefully realise that we need to cut off the selvage on each edge reducing the usable width. Anything puffy is always going to have degree of variability in the measurements so measuring flat is the most comparable way given the orientation of channels, loft vs baffle height etc.

To me the first question is “does the quilt do the job you purchased it for?”.  If the answer is NO then there is a problem and the resolution of this rests on what is disclosed on the web site and what enquiries you made prior to the purchase.  If the answer is YES then there is nothing lost.

I recently bought a UGQ quilt.  I’ll have to pull it out and see how it checks.

I personally would have expected it to finish out at something close to the spec’d dimension, within some sort of reasonable tolerance.

In my case, i never measured the thing.  It was a second quality off the shelf order, a little narrower and shorter model than I would have ordered had I been ordering custom, but oh well…. when i received it, I tried it out, and it covers me well enough.  I never thought to measure it
