Help From Fellow Size 12/13 Shoe Sizer's (UL Sandal Help)

I’ve been looking for the perfect lightweight sandal, too, though I hike in mine. I wear a size 12.5 to 13.5 depending on shoe.  With sandals I usually size down as I like a very trim fit. Hands down, my favorite is the Xero DIY 4mm weighing in at 7.2oz for the pair.  Probably not the best for serious stream crossings as the 4mm rubber is a bit floppy.

I also have a pair of Bedrock Sandals Synclines in size 11? (I think) weighing in at 11.3oz.  These have 9mm soles  which keep my feet warmer when running in snow.  I did not like the way they felt at first but they are starting to form to my foot after 15 or so miles and are becoming much more comfortable. These would handle stream crossings without folding under.

i know both of those aren’t exactly what you’re looking for, being Huarache style.  But I did just pick up a pair of Unshoes Uintas Template 1 in size 11.5 during their Black Friday sale.  These are 7mm I believe and weigh in at 10.3oz for the pair.  I got them to try out a sandal with a little more lateral stability and a bit more underfoot protection in the scree.  They do come in 5mm as well, which I would hazard to guess would weigh a couple ounces less.

The Uintas seem very secure (actually, I’m not sure I like how well my foot is strapped down, being a fan of Huaraches) and quite well built.  Plus, the print out size and shape templates are really nice to get exactly the right shape for your  feet.

Seriously, how is a size 9 on mens considered the benchmark size?

They are the most common mens size believe it or not. Something like less than 3% of people in the world wear a size 12 or larger. Ask around… I’m in serious Freaksville with size 15s

Thank you for the replies and helpful comments.  I emailed a few companies asking for specific weights of size 12 sandals.  Bedrock replied back.  Their size 12 Earthquake UL sandal weighs 10oz for the pair.

As the companies reply back, I’ll add their replied weights here in case this topic gets searched again for large footed people.

I forgot to mention a pair of DIY huaraches I made out of insoles from a pair of size 13 Altra Superiors. Some hemp twine and about 10 minutes of work and I have a pair of very comfortable sandals weighing in at 2.1oz. They’ve held up surprisingly well, too. I wouldn’t want to put in serious trail miles over granite with them but I have worn them for several days around town on crushed gravel, dirt, asphalt, etc. and I haven’t even worn through the first knot yet. About as close to barefoot as you can get but still with a little cushion for your tired dogs.

Luna Shoes Venados: 9.8oz (for the pair)

Bedrock Earthquake: 10oz (for the pair)

*Xeroshoes Amuri Z-Trek: 15.8oz (for the pair weighed on my scale)
