If you want a good read to while away the winter hours, check out Alone in the Fortress of Bears, written by our own Buck Nelson. Last summer he spent away from civilization, depending on only his skills to forage and feed himself.
I enjoyed it. The writing was simple and clean, but put you in the moment with its descriptions. I wouldn’t have guessed that the days could be so filled and so varied, but it was neat to see how he kept himself supplied. Reminded me of that film that is played on PBS about the guys who built his own Alaskan cabin by hand-Dick Pronek? Something like that. Far more enjoyable reality than so-called reality TV.
Give Buck’s book a looksee.
