I was wondering if there was anyone out there making a full zip, hooded jacket made out of Epic?  Thank you.

It’s not hard to MYOG one yourself. I did. Why not have a go?

Hey Ken – that’s eVent, not EPIC. eVent can get much more condensation inside it than EPIC, which has NO membrane.

Hi Brett

Don’t make a big thing out of it. Just do it! If the first one is not perfect – so what?

Cheers

Beyond Clothing makes one called the M5 Glacier Jacket.  Wild Things also makes one called the High Loft Jacket SO 1.0.

I think there are several options out there but they are all 40d fabric and thus in the 10-11oz range.  They are also mostly olive drab as they are for use as part of the ECWCS setup.

Try googling ECWCS Level 4 Jacket.

Yes, Beyond has their M4 and Wilds Things has their WT 1.0 but it is not full zip.  Patagonia used to make a level 4 one but it is hard to tell if it is Epic.

I guess I can modify my Greg Norman jacket a bit more. :)

Hello,

@ Roger caffin, do you have any link to a distibutor for epic ? I have never found one.

Thanks.

I have seen EPIC fabrics for sale occasionaly on web sites such as Seattle and OWFINC. Apart from that, no. You see, it is more of a process than a product.

I contacted the company and they sent me some samples: two lots nylon-based and two lots cotton based. The cotton base turned out to be a complete failure. Correspondance with one of their techies confirmed that the coating was just not sticking to the fibres.

But anyhow, why not try contacting the company? I found their ‘Malibu’ stuff was rather good.

Cheers

I have some cut EPIC yardage sitting unused. It’s been a long time, but I believe it’s polyester, about 1.7 oz/yd and brownish orange.

$10/yd, shipped. PM if interested.

If you can find the discontinued Sierra Designs Stow windshirt, it’s Epic-like with PU treated weave.

Listed at:
Air Permeability: 3 CFM
Water Entry Pressure: 380 mm
Weight: 5 oz. / 0.14 kg

My large weights in at 4.73 oz.  Boxy fit, decently water resistant but not very breathable.  I wore it in some serious winds last weekend and as it got colder I had to throw on my microfleece pullover underneath.  That combo worked great in the near-constant 20 MPH winds.

It also says the stow wets out very easy and the PU coating doesn’t last.

It’s my first wind shirt so I can’t really compare.  It definitely wets out in a real rain.
