Amazon.com : Fantastic World Foods Instant Refried Beans, 7-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) : Dried Pinto Beans : Grocery & Gourmet Food

This was one of my favorite backpacking foods.  I think they quit making them.  Do you know anything that is comparaable.

I use either freeze-dried pinto or black beans. I add shredded freeze-dried cheddar cheese, small kernel Trader Joe’s cous-cous, crushed chili-pepper flakes, olive-oil, baco-bits, and a variety of freeze-dried vegetables, depending on the night. A small amount of carrot flakes are surprisingly good. The whole thing hydrates easily, it can even be done at room temperature. Motherearthproducts.com has a lot of affordable bulk items.

Those beans were incredible!  I can still get the exact same thing at the bulk food bins at my local natural grocers.  And cheaper. Exact same thing. My go-to dinner on the trail.

BTW, did you ever try FF’s sloppy joe? Even better.

“BTW, did you ever try FF’s sloppy joe?”

Ain’t auto-generating links great?

I don’t find any beans at Feathered Friends.  Only gear.

Is that FF link correct?

I checked out the Fantastic Foods site and yep, even the Sloppy Joe’s are discontinued. Darn.

Having cheesie-meatie-beanie-spicy rollup where I could make it in a single small pot and then spread it on a small soft burrito shell  would make a nice addition to trail meals.
