Hello, my fellow backpackers,

Long ago was my last post here. Since then many miles have been walked and also a few smaller backpackers joined :). We are now hiking with our 3 kids and my Evernew 1.3L pot with an amazing TD SideWinder becomes inadequate for 5 people. On our last trip to Austria, we had to boil it twice on each occasion.

I’m looking at some options for a relatively light but big pot over 2L. The options I saw:

  1. Evernew 2.6L NS pot at 290g
  2. Toaks Bail Pot 2L – 245g

We mostly boil water, so no real cooking. That’s why I started to look up for tea kettles too. An interesting find was a Fire Maple Aluminium HA Kettle 1.5L at 308g but for only $28 on AliExpress. IT Even has a Heat Exchanger (same kettle without HE is ~60 gram lighter). Not sure how much will it help. I use Kovea Spider stove when hiking with kids. I put the stove inside the TiTri cone and then insert the Evernew 1.3L pot from above. The kettle is 153mm in diameter, when Evernew 1.3L is 150 – maybe it is possible to use same cone?

I will appreciate any suggestions!

Greg.

Jon, thanks for your input.

Do you have an idea how much does it weigh?

On their website the pot is even cheaper: for $6: http://www.opencountrycampware.com/products/CAMPING-EQUIPMENT/Pots-and-Kettles/2-Quart-Non-Stick-Kettle/

Dimensions: 6 1/4″ DIA x 4 1/2″ 0.62 lbs.

So a tiny bit havier, but not too much. However won’t fit in a 15cm cone.
