I came across a UK site, Three Points of the Compass, where I found this article on a Ti cone from thr Czech (?) Republic. It is sold by some UK outfitters. It’s worth a look. Designed for the Wide style Evernew pots (IÂ have a Trail Designs cone for my Evernew 900).

Jan 8, 2024 at 6:05 am #3801092I’ve no experience with these myself, as I use TD cones*. But a recent thread here shows that for the user in question, the Vesucv cone seems to perform significantly slower than
my Sidewinder setup.

Jan 8, 2024 at 5:24 pm #3801132I guess that I’ll have to change all of my winter snaps to buttons or hooks :)
Jan 9, 2024 at 4:17 am #3801150I bought a Vesuv recently – I am in Australia and had dreamed of a TD Sidewinder but it looked like it would be complicated to get and shipping is costly. A local supplier had Vesuv.
I don’t think as much design care has gone into the Vesuv but it works well for me. I’m using it with my ancient trangia burner- it’s pretty close to the pot. If uneven ground makes it any closer it struggles. It is a good speed for me – by the time I’ve got my hot chocolate mix ready it has boiled 500ml of water 😃. I can simmer well with it (I cook, not only boil water). I’ll see how durable it is. The brand is cut into the side – so holes higher up. I don’t think that’s great functionally but makes it easier for curious people (me) to peer inside at what the flame is actually doing .
Jan 9, 2024 at 3:15 pm #3801201I wonder if the height of this cone was simply calculated to fit inside the pot without concern for efficiency (height of the pot above the stove).
Trail Designs goes to great lengths (R&D) to position the pot at the optimum height above the stove. I’ve been using their products for something like 15 years and wouldn’t switch for trips where I use alcohol or Esbit fuel. I’ve been using a Trail Designs Ti-Tri Fissure for 8 years now.

without concern for efficiency (height
of the pot above the stove). That is what I thought. It is advertised as suiting the evernew alcohol burner- as far as I can tell, that is only 1mm or so shorter than my trangia burner, so the height of the pot above their suggested stove is less than what others have found to be most efficient.
Jan 9, 2024 at 7:11 pm #3801231Neat idea! I admit, i have no preference or experience with snap buttons in cold/winter.
That said, I complement the comments from Nick Gatel. I have exclusively used a trail designs cone for about ~9 years now, all four seasons with esbit. The titanium cone has been through thousands and thousands of miles and hundreds of nights of hot meals!
The simple connection design leaves very little to fail.

Jan 13, 2024 at 10:08 am #3801456I wondered about those snaps freezing up, too.
They do now make windscreens for popular Toaks pots also.
Jan 13, 2024 at 10:16 am #3801457Mar 11, 2025 at 11:25 am #3830087I have two versions of these; 1 for the 600ml and 1 for the 900ml Evernew pots.
The snaps have held up just fine on a 2 weeker and other various 2 and 3 day trips. I am careful when unsnapping though.
Efficiency wise, I’ve not done any real metrics (i.e. not plugged anything into spreadsheets) but I have found that my MYOG kojin ‘screw top tin’ type burner boils a mug of water (got to be a mug for tea – I don’t do cups of tea) in 6-7 mins on about 12-15ml but there is some soot.
That compares to my MYOG cone with the same stove but with an Alpkit/Toaks 750ml in a slightly longer 7-8 mins with the same amount of fuel (bio-ethanol). Again there’s some soot suggesting not enough air or the pot-flame gap is not right. Part of that difference is likely to be the pot base diameter (I am guessing).
Toaks Siphoon is quicker and cleaner coming in at around 6.30, same fuel, same mug. Little to no soot.
The fastest, cleanest combination I have found is the Trangia burner with the Vesuv. Again, same mug and around the same fuel (weighing the burner before and after rather than measuring the amount meticulously over multiple runs).
I have ordered a couple of lighter Trangia burner clones (still with screw tops) to see if I can find an acceptable compromise vis-a-vis weight for the clean burn and the convenience of the screw top.
In summary the Vesuv cones work OK in my experience but possibly not as efficient as a cone tweaked for any individual pot/burner combination.
