Items MUST be relevant to light-weight backpacking and BPL
Baking seems to be gathering a lot of interest so I have decided make available the Epicurean Titanium Stove which is an optimal stove for dry baking. The stove uses Esbit and other solid fuels and has a dual burn mode: high for boiling and low for simmering and baking. In the low mode, a single 14 gram tablet of Esbit will burn at around 100 W for 50 to 60 minutes in a pot system (slightly shorter times in mug based systems). The stove and baseplate weight 14 grams. No muss, no fuss: light the stove and away you go – no need to fiddle with anything. BTW, in low mode, Esbit does not generate soot.

Hopefully, I have followed BPL’s guidelines correctly. If not, Roger can spank me.
May 19, 2016 at 4:25 pm #3403502Does the $25.00 include a pot support?
May 19, 2016 at 5:47 pm #3403517The Epicurean Stove requires a pot support with a “ground to pot” distance of 1.8″ (pot stand not included). The stove was designed to be compatible with the Bobcat and Snow Leopard Cooking Systems. The Epicurean Stove can also be used to dry bake using Trail Design windscreens (Caldera, Sidewinder and so forth), due to the design height differences the stove will need to be elevated 1/2″ to set the correct distance. Of course, the Epicurean Stove will also work with a regular pot stand.
This is our 6th Generation Epicurean design. The design has been validated in the field up to ~14k feet as well as sub zero temperatures. This design version, the stove is 100% titanium with an aluminum baseplate
May 19, 2016 at 6:39 pm #3403525Great deal, happy Flat Cat Gear customer here. Can’t say enough about Jon’s products and service. I wouldn’t be baking if it wasn’t for him. Too bad I already have an Epicurean. Thanks Jon!

Does that mean you’ve baked muffins etc. using it at those temps and elevations?
Does esbit light easily at those temps and heights? I’ve been a wood fuel user 90% of the time. I’m thinking of taking along some cubes to use in case of wet conditions.
May 19, 2016 at 9:31 pm #3403564Great deal Jon,
I love my kit and it’s my go to system for everything over 1 day trips.
I can vouch for the baking system,
I’ve had mine burn for 1hr and 15 min. at 10,000 ft and some even longer, up to 1hr 25 min.
I can’t tell you why it burned so long, I just know that it has. it’s the most efficient stove out there that I know of, and who doesn’t like baked goods on the trail!
Thanks for all your hard work Jon.
May 20, 2016 at 8:30 am #3403614We go through a lot of effort to test our gear in the lab, but more importantly we test our gear where it really counts: in the field. The Epicurean Titanium has been field tested at various elevations. We don’t make just muffins; we bake full meals. Here is a photo of a pasta & meat dish made at Algers Lake (11,000′). Click here for the link to purchase a field tested, stove that you can dry bake: the Epicurean Titanium stove – Backpackinglight special for $25!

May 20, 2016 at 9:19 am #3403620Jon, the link for the special seems to be for a baking plate not the stove.

May 21, 2016 at 9:52 pm #3403927Hi Jon,
I have your Epicurean UL kit, that I think you had here before in gear deals. I don’t have the dimensions handy but it came in a flat package with instructions to gently sand and bend. A paperclip holds the two end pieces together. I think this one is bigger?. Are there other changes our advantages to the newer design?
I’ve said it before here, great gear and support from Flat Cat Gear. I carry the Snow Leopard Jr. with a toaks lite 650 for all my solo trips. I usually try to bake with larger pot sets like the trail designs sidewinder + 1.3 L evernew. That’s were this newer epicurean would probably reside.
May 21, 2016 at 10:49 pm #3403932Bob,
The Epicurean UL 15 is still available as a finished product and as a DIY kit ($10). The UL version is made of titanium, weighs 5 grams and is smaller in diameter due to the differences in heat transfer. The UL15 will be changing to stainless steel an will be even lighter than the titanium version.
The regular Epicurean Titanium stove is quite a bit more robust and is preferred by most customers. Best regards.
May 23, 2016 at 11:14 pm #3404398Ordered.
I think I posted my trials and tribulations trying to bake with various alcohol stoves with small windscreen kits, like the caldera cone with the mini solo kit. I kept burning the muffin and the alcohol would go fast. I’m sure it’s possible, but clearly not set and forget.
Jon and others suggested I try esbit. I usually carry a tab or two “just in case” and it paid off on San Jacinto last year when we realized the bottle of heet was home in the garage.
If I’m going to have the esbit then why not plan to bake with it. This will give us two epicureans for an upcoming trip, and we can have a bake off if we want. I also like that it’s approved for boy scout treks.
Thanks Jon

Jun 16, 2016 at 3:11 pm #3409248The Backpackinglight sale of the Epicurean Titanium Stove will end after Father’s Day: here is the link to the Special Offer. The Epicurean Titanium Stove is the easiest way to dry bake while in the backcountry, The stove was designed to burn Esbit and will gently heat your baked goods (typical; burn times for 1 tablet are 50-60 minutes). While baking, the burning Esbit has very little odor and does not generate soot on your pot!
Baked on the Na Pali Coast (Kalalau Trial, Kauai, HI)
Baked while backpacking in Point Reyes, CA.
Happy Father’s Day
