Down Jacket Questions

If the jacket came on spec for the total weight, the fill in those baffles shouldn’t be a problem. It is a very nice jacket with a good fit on you. Since it’s not winter yet, I would suggest testing it by having it on at home for a while. Then cool down, and then try on another jacket. If it feels like you’re warmer in the Rab, then it is warmer. Compare it to several jackets while you’re at it. As long as it feels significantly warmer than your old down jacket, then I think it justifies itself. A couple of underfilled baffles isn’t going to change that.

My Zenbivy ultralight 25 degree looks like that – can see right through – even more so than with your jacket. And it is very warm.

You can’t defeat gravity. You can only manage it. The less fill you have, the more baffling you need. The GW is an extreme example where synthetics cans win out. The Rab Ultra is their next step up in warmth. A bit more fill and a few less baffles. Sewn through, it has an inside liner in the front. It’s good for the winter storms. Below 20*F. Sometimes 30*. It can get too warm. It’s too warm for everyday.

Beauty is in form and function. Rab is fashionable because it fits well and looks warm because it is warm.. That is it’s beauty. It’s form is functional. Fashion is it’s flaw raising suspicions.  They make good products that are tested and thought out. They’ve adapted and grown through their existence. I agree with the last two posts. Just from the pictures, I’m sure it’s warmer than your GW.
