Hi everyone, I’m in the process of planning my solo JMT hike starting in late August. My current shelter is a Tarptent Notch. I love this shelter for its ease of set up and the inner helps with sideways rain and splash, something i deal with often in the PNW. However, it’s heavier than I’d like for JMT. I don’t Want to buy a new shelter, but do anticipate going the tarp/bivey route eventually. So what I’m wondering is…would leaving the inner home for a late August trip in the Sierras be recommended? I do need to purchase a new poncho of some sort, and was thinking if I got the zpacks poncho groundsheet, I can use the groundsheet with the notch’s rain fly as my full shelter. Only downside is the zpacks poncho/groundsheet is almost as expensive as buying an entire shelter. If I leave the inner home and just use a poly ground sheet I can still save 7-8 oz. vs ~10 with the zpacks
