I’ve always wanted to see the ocotillos in bloom so I hiked a section of the PCT in order to see them. I’m a nerd when it comes to stuff like this and I have to say seeing the cactus in bloom rated up there with the Goat Rocks as best day I’ve ever had on the PCT.
Here are a few pictures.
Oh geez. We have TONS of them here in AZ. They are my favorite desert plant.

The desert is so beautiful. I always have to chuckle at those folks who want to skip the desert on the PCT.
My favorite too. We just planted 3 in the front yard and will add some to the back too.
I saw this monster in a yard in Sun City, AZ a couple weeks ago.
Nice! Small ones about 5′ high cost $40 here. One of those is worth thousands of dollars.
Holy cow that big one is, well, BIG!
I love the way the red plays with the blue sky and white desert.
