I can loose up to 3 liters per hour when it’s hot. I Need to be able to get to water on a regular basis… so I attached carbon fiber water bottle holders to the bottom of my pack!  Works GREAT!

Seek Outside backpacks allow easy access to massive-size water bottle pockets. You can fit two 320z Gatorade bottle in each pocket.

Being a smallish kind of person, I have found it nearly impossible to be able to extract a water bottle from the side pocket of any of my packs. One solution I came up with is wearing a vest with pockets big enough to hold a 16 oz. bottle. Duluth Trading has a “gardener’s vest” that works very well for this. Along with room for a water bottle, I can also carry my cell phone, trail map and guide in the alternate pocket, snacks in the back pockets and my id in an inner zip pocket. Another solution that may or may not work is being able to “hook” the bottle somehow with a finger or being able to pull the bottle out of the pocket using a fastening around the neck with a tail attached. I found a seller on Etsy that makes a water bottle clip with cordage that may work… we shall see.
