I’ve had this site pop up on a lot of my internet searching for awhile and have learned quite a bit from here. Finally decided to pony up last night and get a paid subscription.  I’ve taken a serious stab at shedding quite a bit of pack weight in the past year – my desire to hike more miles per day has grown as my free time has diminished.

I’m definitely glad I took the plunge and joined this community, which I’ve learned quite a bit from already.

Anyways, from a So Cal/Sierra’s hiker – hello!

Since I can’t edit – I should add that I’m looking forward to asking questions here and there, and hopefully contributing in a meaningful manner.

Hey Rob! Welcome. It’s nice to see a new person posting here. I’m over in Arizona but my favorite place to backpack is the Sierra.

@xnomanx – I’m in Koreatown at the moment… raised in Hollywood, FWIW.  I’ll actually be out that way tomorrow morning.  Dayhiking until this heat wave becomes too unbearable… I give it 3 hours tops, haha.

The heat and smog are absolutely miserable right now.  I hate summer here.

Went canyoneering in the foothills yesterday at noon; it took 4 quarts of water, a cold shower, and 15 minutes in a dark, air conditioned room before my head felt right afterwards.

You’re welcome to message me if you’re doing anything and want company.

Craig – smog…..

And sounds great.  I’m sure I’ll take you up on your offer!

Good to see you’re “joining the ranks” of BPLers. Welcome and be sure to contribute comments or new threads.

My daughter lives in Thousand Oaks, CA and I hike the BLM trails near her house in Dos Vents Ranch. Lots of beautiful scenery including views from mountain tops of the Channel Islands in the misty distance.

Eric – I actually haven’t been out there specifically, but in general that area has lots of beautiful scenery.  I hope your daughter is doing well with the heat!  It’s been scorching over here!
