Alternative to Tornado Tube Connector Between BeFree and Platypus

FYI – The Evernew Bladder with a Sawyer works great with the Tornado Tube for me.  My 2 cents.

I’ve screwed sawyer squeeze onto a platypus bag but the thread pitch is slightly different.  Since it’s plastic and not too many threads it sort of works, the plastic deforms (elastically).  But it doesn’t seal perfectly, water leaks a little.

Yeah Jerry, that’s the problem. You can make it work but because you are putting pressure on the threads it can get stuck (or not fit tight enough).

As an FYI, if you are using it as a gravity feed, you will get better flow with a tube to increase the pressure head. Of course, if you’re happy with it as-is, there’s no need to carry something extra.

I just screwed my squeeze onto the mis-matched platypus and turned it upside down.  Low flow, but it eventually produced the desired amount of water.

But then it was so slow that I got distracted.  Came back and the output bottle filled and a bunch overflowed onto the ground.  Which was fine, I had plenty of water, but it’s poor form.

I just squeeze it now, easier.

I’ve used both and have switched from my trusty hydro blue over to the quickdraw permanently. Flow in my experience is better than a be free and it’s also back flushable. It’s criminal that Katadin made the 28 mm threads on the Befree non standard on purpose.

I just wish that platypus would simplify the quick draw system and make 28 mm standard dreads on both sides without attachments. Only issue I have with the system is that there are too many bips, o-rings and caps to track.

28mm or death for me.

I ended up buying the Platypus filter and a Cnoc water bag for dirty water. I only tested it in the bathtub but the flow is outstanding. The connection to the clean Platypus is easy and snug. I had extra water in the Cnoc but no drips. I like the big opening for the Cnoc although it will take a bit of getting used to. If I don’t like it I can always go back to using Hyrdapack for dirty water (since the filter handles both). I probably won’t but this is an option I figure is worth mentioning (especially if you are transitioning from BeFree filter and didn’t lose the dirty bag at the same time).
