Some of those prices are insane. Another thing, why with the exception of black, are the colors so strange? Is it the material that lends itself to muted pastel dyes?

We (Seek Outside) have done a fair amount of playing with Alpha Direct. Love it , myself especially when combined with a good breathable / waterproof layer  like Neoshell.  Yes, a lot of the colors are weird and I’ve heard a lot of feedback on the colors .. however the people that have used it have mostly absolutely loved it. The cost of it is high just as a raw material. Ive been skijoring in a combo of light wool base layer, 90 G alpha direct hoodie with kangaroo pockets, 150 G Alpha direct vest, and Neoshell shell .. I’ve been out in 10 degree weather being active and it has worked great. I do think some of it could lend itself to light gray .. light green .

Brad and Kevin – thanks for the inspiration. Did a deep dive on the fabric and ended up finding a non-hoody (I’m not a hoody fan) 1/4 zip t-neck in AD90 out of Spain for $119 shipped. Looking forward to trying it out.

It’s kind of amazing how few garments in this material are available or in stock.

That didn’t take long…only a few XS and 2XL left.

They sent the email at 2:30 yesterday. I just saw it this morning.

I packed an MYOG Alpha Direct 4004/Argon 49 (7D) quilt back during the warmer months of 2024. Temps never got below 50* F. I’m amazed at how much warmth the 11 oz quilt provides. With each end cinched down and footbox snapped close the AD quilt is good to about 53* F comfort limit. Packs down way smaller than equivalent Apex. Measures 54″ X 80″ (rectangle) and is great to wrap the body for extra warmth sitting around camp. A thin nylon shell with the AD makes it more than the sum of its parts and produces a synergistic effect. The Argon also protects the highly vulnerable Alpha from snags.

Picked up my second piece of Alpha, 120gsm pants. 6oz. Tried them out this morning on my walk-19F. Put a pair of Houdini wind pants over them. Man are they warm. 20 minutes in I was too warm. Will be using them for sleep or around camp. I am sold on this stuff.

Not sure who’s making pants, but https://learnmyog.com/ and RipStopByTheRoll have a “camp pants” pattern using AD.

Discovery Fabrics also did a nice video with their personal notes on how they sewed a pair and some of the materials they used, e.g. for the waist band and the pocket liners, etc.

I’m intrigued enough that they are on my “todo” list, after I sew a few more Polartec PowerGrid fleece hoodies for some friends who are going with me to Iceland this summer.

Heads up Farpointe has some alpha pants and shirts available. Not sure for how long.
