In most developing countries if the pharmacy does not sell 100% denatured alcohol (which you can dilute to your requirement), the medical supply stores will.
Hand sanitizer: 70% ethanol, is pretty common world wide. My 2 cents
Stove manufacturer (trail designs) specially said that 70% would not work (too much water)
I am also a stove manufacture and have never had a problem using 70% ethanol hand sanitizer in the stoves that we offer. I have used our designs around the world. It could be design related. My 2 cents.
Thanks for the tip, maybe I will give it a shot!
A simple cat can stove should work fine, just add more fuel. My 2 cents.
Is rubbing alcohol available in India?

where exactly are you going to in the Himalayan region? I can try to find out if we have any friends from that region to check. I have not lived in India for 33 years now…..but I remember Kerosene being used in stoves/lamps etc. Kerosene should be readily available everywhere. But, I can try and find out if you give me exact region.
I thought there is a guy from India here on BPL who was selling a bivy like tent and if I remember correctly, he was probably in the Himalayan range. Let me see if I can find his contact.
That’s Huzefa!
Ah – yes….thanks Mathew K – that is the guy. Contact him – as he backpacks in India….
I’m heading to the Leh region.
appreciate all the input 🙏
Thanks for all the input, hand sanitizer (80% ethanol) worked!
