Everywhere I hike in the Mid-Atlantic and New England parks I always find old beer bottles and cans that date from the 1970s and earlier. One can of Rheingold beer I found last week in Harriman State Park dated back to the late 40s.
I just want to know more about when, where, how, why people used to go deep in the woods to drink. I mean, I get it, it was probably just something chill to do (except for the littering) just to getaway solo or with friends. I don’t condone this, of course. I’m just thinking historically when people did this.
I’m just curious if any older folks in this subreddit have any insight or anecdotes!
