Hello,
I have been using Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boot , These are nice for, 2-3 days trip, but beyond that they are just heavy, and hard on foot.
I used to have runner knee, and till now I still have mild pain in my right knee in case of long running or hiking.
Anyway, I have been looking recently on articles here regarding hiking shoes and it looks like people are more toward trail running shoes.
After my little research I found that people like NB 100(out of market), and La Sportiva WildCat. I do have flat foot, so I am not sure if I need arch support, or I can do fine without it.
My question,
1-Are my choices good? or you guys have different recommendations?
2- Should I stick to Arch support shoes, or I can do fine with flat shoes?
3- Can I use trail running shoes in winter? or there are specific ones made for winter (having water proofing, and keep foot temperature)?

Thanks in Advance.

I am using Asics gt-2000 goretex in the winter and during wet fall weather. I use gaiters when there is more than a dusting of snow.

once you start hiking in trail running shoes, it is very unlikely you'll ever go back to boots

fit is king and trumps everything else, the best way to insure a good fit is to try on lots of shoes at your local running store- once you get it narrowed down to a few shoes, see what their return policy is- many will let you test spin a pair out w/o penalty (a few online stores will as well)

goretex shoes are nice in the winter snow- they do keep your foot drier and warmer (a goretex sock will also work and lets you use your existing shoe); outside of deep winter I avoid goretex shoes like the plague

Thanks to all of you,
Can I use trail runing shoes for running on roads outside, and the specific running tracks inside gyms( I dont know their name in English sorry)?

I wouldn't recommend it personally. The soles of trail running shoes are often made of very soft, sticky rubber that will wear out quickly in those situations. There are shoes that are made for city trails, road running, and hiking such as the Salomon Sense Pro. Those will have some compromises though.

They would do fine, but many gyms/clubs request that you not use your outside shoes in their neat and clean indoor facility.

Thanks to all of you. I tried La Sportiva and liked them.
But I was terrified by two reviews I read here about to guys had problems, the first had a sharp stone going through the sole, and the other had a similar issue.
Is there any thing I need to be worrying about and considering here as a first time user?
