Finally, I made second, warmer version of the balaclava. Fabric is the same, insulation is 2x 2.5 oz/sqyd climashield, the same I used for quilt.
I used the same pattern, scaled to 115%. Only the bottom of the pattern must be cut to maintain the same height from edge to the face hole.
I haven't tested it yet, but it seems to be VERY warm…
