Stashing gear in Yosemite Valley?

I'm going to Yosemite in August for a family backpacking trip and we're trying to do it without a car, flying in to Merced, using YARTS, shuttles, etc. We'll be starting in the Valley for a handful of days just hanging out, probably at Awahnee. Then we are going up to Tuolumne or on to Agnew to hike back to Yosemite Valley over four or five days and ending back there for a few days.

We'd like to leave a duffle bag of clothes and odd and ends in the Valley while we backpack.

Anybody have ideas on how this can be done? Are there luggage lockers anywhere for this purpose?

Thanks, David

The only lockers in the Park are in Yosemite Valley. Coin-operated, the lockers are located on the west side of the registration office in Curry Village.

Awahnee implies a room at the Awahnee hotel right? I bet they would be willing to hold a bag for a customer who just stayed with them. If you plan to stay there on your return it would be a slam dunk.

Worst case… if all else fails you could mail the bag to yourself at the Valley's PO c/o general delivery. They would hold it 30 days.

I've never had a fail when hiding food or gear along a trail – typically tucked up in the beams of a footbridge. The stuff is always there days or weeks later when I come through on a death march. But I do that on trails in Alaskan, not the busiest part of the most visited NP in the country. And any food I stash is completely scentless – canned drinks, etc.

Call about the coin-operated lockers before relying on that – some are cleared out every 24 hours for security or revenue reasons. The Awahnee option sounds ideal – for $450/night, I'd expect some decent service (and to pay $10-ish/bag/day).

Another possibility – hit up any park worker that seems friendly. None of them get paid much and might happily take a duffle of stuff to their lodging for a few days and meet you back at their place of work with it for $20-$40 tax-free cash. Have a kid or a wife in tow so you look less like a drug dealer.
