I ordered a titanium pot lid from this company on Dec 24th. Haven't heard a word from them and no response to my email. I figured it's a small company and everybody is entitled to a holiday break, but the total lack of communication has me wondering. Paid with PayPal so I have 180 days to "correct any problems", but would rather have the pot lid :)

Anybody dealt with FourDog before?

From the website.

"Please Note; We are small custom shop, always have been always will be. Most items are handcrafted here in St Francis, MN by Steve my helper, my wife or myself. We spend most our time making things not in the office, or on the phone or answering email.

So at times it may take 2-10 days before your order is shipped or your email is answerd. Most questions can be answerd on the website or by my videos.Where not Amazon. We don't job work out, we still make things that work and work well.

So if you need it fast order early and you will have it. Don't wait to the last minute.

Enjoy the trail!"

I've ordered from Don before. The item arrived without any communication, as expected.

Thanks for the input Ken.

I saw the note on the website before I ordered. Honestly, it made me want to order from them more…support your cottage industry and all that. I can be patient.

Hi,
I ordered a wind screen last year and received it pretty fast.

Don Kaveliuos,the owner,is in each the vids…

Don looks like a cast member from "Grumpy Old Men". Hes a real Minnasoodan..

Great guy- very honest. The problem is.,here is only one.of him..;)
At this time of the year, he is backed up making wood camp stoves as well as lids ,bails, etc. He'll get your lid out as soon as he can.

But one thing is for sure, unless Don were to die suddenly, thats the only scenario I could ever invision someone ever not getting what they ordered .I wish.him a long life.:)

Four Dog is right up their with the very best of the cottage companies,IMHO.

I've ordered a couple different stoves and a couple different lids from Don, everything was always delivered promptly. Very stand up guy from experience over the last four years.

Give him a call, he has phone number right on his site.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to reply.

That everyone's experience with the company and its products is top-notch is exactly what I expected to hear. In this age of instant communication and Amazon it's sometimes hard to remember that single proprietorships and craftsman are busy building products and not emailing, tweeting or handholding.

I will make certain to let everyone know how the lid turns out once I have used it.

Don presses them out of .O125" grade 2 sheet. They are stiff and tough.

The only issue is the surface finish is not as smoothly drawn or polished on the outside as say a Snowpeak or Evernew product. No burrs, but a few small forming kinks around the edge and or polishing swirl marks on the top. Titanium is a lot harder to get a smoothly drawn finish with simple forming dies than Aluminum.

As Don days, they are made to be used, not to be put in a china cupboard and stared at.;)

I bought my first one two years ago for a Snowpeak trek bowl that I use constantly in the shop as a test mule..It's had a rough life as everytime it gets dropped (which is often) ,it lands on concrete..j

It has actually held up better than the SP bowl and is quite a bit more rigid as well.

I ordered a lid for an Olicamp mug around the same time and got mine in a week. Quality is as described above: functional, well made, not the prettiest.

I would follow up to make sure your order was not misplaced.

Joe,

I did send one email, but have yet to receive a response. I appreciate your response, but at this point I'm just going to hang loose and wait for my lid to arrive

Jimmer,

I love handmade stuff and would actually be kind of disappointed if it looked like it was made in a factory :)

One tbing I will say is the overall surface finish of the Ti sheet stock Don uses IS dead smooth. No "pebbely" surface like the SP and Evernew stuff and no dark "sandblast" look like the Chinese Ti..Just bright shiny Grade2 Titanium as mother nature intented..;)

I have sent him numerous emails and pm's on this forum simply asking when the Bushcooker 1 might be available again. I have yet to receive a reply so I just gave up. I do hope you have better luck than I did.

He gets paid to make gear- not be everyone's internet pen pal on demand free of charge..
Cut the man a little slack.

I GUARANTEE YOU that if you go to their website and use the correct email addy , you'll get an answer to any polite inquiry. There is a possibilty that your email address ,ISP could be triggering a spam filter they may have setup in their account.

You also might try calling them. Don has never struck me as being purposely rude or unresponsive to customers.

I have 2 of his stoves. I have used 5 or 6 different makes of wood burning UL stoves and I like the 4 dog best. I would order from him again if I didn't need the gear ASAP. I had to call multiple times to get my first order. This was 3 or 4 years ago and it took about 2 months and 4 or 5 calls to finally get the stove. He kept misplacing/forgetting my order. A year or 2 later I placed another order which came right away. Go figure. I got the impression that he is not the most organized person but he made up for lack of organization with a great product. I would call instead of emailing. He also told me winters are his busy time and he leads groups or classes (can't remember the details).

I ordered one of the Mors pots from his site and had no issues. Just keep in mind that despite the technological age we live in, not everyone spends every waking hour of the day 'accessible' through smart phones, e-mail, etc. If you aren't having luck getting a response I'd try a phone.

Good luck with the order.

I have called him in the past. When I left a voice mail he called right back. Here is a phone number I have used in the past 763-444-9587.
Good Luck,
Fred

It's okay, John, you're among people who understand. ;^)

Pot lid came yesterday and it is perfect. Not factory made perfect…just…perfect. Replaces the crappy plastic lid the Olicamp XTS comes with, fits like a glove and loses 5gm to boot.

Super happy.
